Definite keeper for future reference!
Although we used the 8th ed in a recent course, it is probably the most well thought out O.R. intro you will find - good relevant case study material for the interested practitioner as well.Not too mathematically rigorous w.r.t. research, but examples are detailed enough, and the book also has a great selection of seemingly real-life practice problems.I especially appreciate ancillary chapters (e.g. crystal ball, project mgmt) being kept on the CD-ROM, it makes it a lot easier to carry and read on the train!

A bright"Star" in the OR SKY!!!
Very good book! Can be used as a reference for practising engineers or as a Text-book in a class room at the Senior under-graduate class or in a Masters program. I used this book 25 years ago and now the 2001 edition is very well written and organized, addressing the 21st Century problems in OR. For Personal PC applications the CD is of great help for any one who want to succeed in Operations Research!

A decent math book.
First off the fact that the book isn't crammed full of proofs makes it easier to follow and understand, some of the examples are made overly complex, but the software that comes along with it are excellent. The Interactive Routine software is outstanding, the big M method was never clear to me until I worked though the routines. Not just technical info
I thoroughly enjoyed this book.Although I picked it up for its scientific information, Ramsey and Modarres have also included some of the intrigue that we all know exists within the industry.I found the geo-political and cross-industrial information insightful.I'd love to see more on this... like, "who wants to kill off the nuclear power industry?And why?"

Excellent Introduction To Nuclear Safety
"Commercial Nuclear Power" is a must-read book for anyone with an interest in nuclear energy specifically, or with electricity production and consumption generally. The book is fairly technical, and would be most easily understood by people with some basic knowledge of chemistry, physics, or engineering; having said that, the authors are very good at explaining difficult ideas from general concept to specific application, which makes the book comprehensible to an average reader. One thing that makes the book easier to digest is the lack of higher math, which is frequently where this subject can bog down for non-professionals.
Nuclear Energy - From Jane Fonda to Reality
This book, though somewhat technical, is a primer in the problems and great potential of nuclear power. It dissolves the fog of "junk science" perpetuated by some environmentalist groups and the Press in particular. One of the better things that crossed my desk last month was a copy of a new book by John Krieg titled Desert Landscape Architecture (Saint Lucie Press; ISBN: 1574442252.) Whether you are a homeowner, a contractor, abuilder, a wanna-be landscaper or a plant person, you need this book.Desert Landscape Architecture is a hands-on, step-by-step, "HowTo" book that will save anyone thousands of dollars on theirlandscape. Gubner provides an excellent text for undergrads or grads wanting a solid background in applying the ideas of probability and random processes. The emphasis is on applications in electrical engineering. The book presupposes a solid background in calculus and some circuit theory. Ideally, the student might be a third year undergrad or higher.

offers 15 design principles
Varghese explains a very specialised but critical field. He presupposes on your part an already extensive knowledge of TCP/IP and its routing protocols. The book usefully offers on its inside cover 15 principles for overcoming network bottlenecks. It seems fair to say that the bulk of the book is devoted to explaining and using these ideas. Undoubtedly, other books have elucidated most of these. But maybe not as explicitly and cogently as Varghese.
great book - a must read
This is an excellent, excellent text. Techniques and principles for building high performance distributed systems are hard to come by except through experience and talking to experts. There's a lot of knowledge in the community but this book is the first time to my knowledge that someone has collected it and presented it in a coherent framework. Even if you don't work with low level stuff, this book will help you learn to think in a "systemsy" way about high-performance designs.

excellent book
The book describes in an unique way some of the algorithmic and system implementation details of network appliances. Some of the chapters (packet classification, forwarding and traffic measurements) might be know to readers familiar with the SIGCOMM and Infocom conferences: these chaptersare excellent tutorials to some very advanced networking topics and can help readers to better understand papers from the main author published at Infocom/SIGCOMM.

A Gem
Though Landau series is an indispensable part of any 'Physicist', this one is a gem in the aspect of comprehensibility and importance. Most books would discuss stat mech on a different footnote from thermodynamics, which is not the way, the subjects were developed. Landau Lifschitz give a deeper and most lucid insight into 'statistical thermodynamics' of any system which has gained its importance owing to intriguing facts in hot dense nuclear matter, standing on face.

Excellent guide to particle behaviour...I am involved in research where an indepth understanding of aerosol behavior is a must in electrostatic powder coating and separation. This is an excellent resource and should be a partof your professional collection.
