If There Is One Book You'll Ever Need, This Is It!
I own several environmental engineer textbooks, many of which focuses on either environmental planning, engineering systems, case histories & legislations, water treatment, energy, or current trends. Few books like this 1400+ page monster of a handbook focuses on all aspects of this important field. In its preface it explains why having all aspects in one bounded body is vital to the engineer student; simply the field of environemental engineering utilizes knowledge and information from other-scientific, legal, and social-science fields to solve many problems that are encountered daily whiles working to create better systems, laws and solutions. This book has everything that you will need to know to work in the field. It promotes tried and true theories used by scientists before as well as sets up the beginner students with the challenges of creating new theories and working ideas to solve current and projected problems that face us today.

Excelente learning tool for Petroleum Production Systems
It is an excellent book to understand in detail the petroleum production systems for a person who has some background in the area. It is also helpful as a reference book.

Waste of money
The book is unpractical for the working engineer and the mathematics is simplified calculus which is not understandable to the average practicing engineer, but seems to be in favor of academic types. This is not a book for someone who wants to learn why production equipment works. The chapter on multiphase flow is its only saving grace, but any cheap paper on the subject will say as much. I would recomened the OGCI books on Production Technology. Way cheaper...way better...

Synchronicity???
Is this book, a worthwhile read, an attempt to close the book on shady goings-on in Woburn of the 1960s?Were some children in this case treated for leukemia using cutting edge techniques of the day,such as bone marrow transplants, and some of those children survived only to be tormented because of their unexpected survival?
Just a an ending, not a beginning!
This is a necessary book which does a public service by highlighting the repercussions of poor environmental stewardship. It does not, however, indicate the extent of a broader mystery behind the events in Woburn and Middlesex county itself, respectively.

This book is a must for those who want to get involved in water treatment.

Just mediocre.

Highly disappointing
While the class I took that used this textbook was informative, this book was full of what seemed to be the authors' personal opinons.Like another person said here in the reviews about blame on the Bush administration, and lack of references aside from photo credits, this book seemed to be geared more towards giving you the biased outlook of the author than an unbiased view of environmental science.
Interestign articles with a thick political spin
This revision must have been specially produced just to include all the anti-Bush rhetoric.In nearly every chapter, responsibility for the current state of the environment is laid squarly on President Bush's administration.

good wetland text
Overall, this is a very good text on wetlands (for students and professionals both).However, I personally feel that a entire chapter could be devoted to wetland soils and wish that this book gave a better presentation of wetland soils.Furthermore, a great deal of research has been performed in Boreal wetlands and Boreal Prairie wetlands of Canada yet the Canadian literature is somewhat lacking in this text.Its still the best option out there for professors.

There is no better book for learning about wetlands that I have found.Many students find hydrology difficult, but this book lays this critical process out clearly, with excellent illustrations and diagrams.
The Wetlands Textbook
I first picked this book up to consider a career as a wetland scientist (among other things) and instantly dove into the heaps of information provided. Practical Design Calculations for Groundwater and Soil
The concepts covered in this text are fairly well explained.Chapter 2 focuses on characterization and remedial investigation.This section can be useful for those who do UST investigations and soil removal.Here the author runs through the steps used to determine mass and volume of soil excavated from a tank pit and mass and concentration of excavated soil.There are also many useful subsections describing the procedure for determining mass and mole fractions of gasoline components, contamination in the vadose zone, etc..The author also presents calculations for determining well volume for groundwater sampling.Chapter three covers plume migration in groundwater and soil and the author covers such topics as transmissivity, specific yield and storativity.These topics are not covered in great detail.Aquifer tests are covered and some simple examples are used demonstrating the Theis Method, Cooper-Jacob Straight Line method and Distance-Drawdown method.Not a lot of detail in these sections.Remaining chapters cover mass balance, vadose zone and soil remediation, groundwater remediation and VOC air treatment.Overall a good reference text with a great deal of applicable information.

Can't Wait for New Edition in December 2005
Great book.As an educator, it was the best one on the market.It only lacks current data, but the new edition coming in a couple of months should take care of that.

Safety and Health for Engineers
I just passed my ASP and this book was an excellent introductory text.While it is understood that many other reference have to be used, I recommend this book as one of the first you review.

Good idea, but flawed execution
Although this text does cover a wide range of safety topics, it is somewhat dated and contains a farly large number of typos.Therefore, the reader has to be careful.The book needs to be updated and the typographical errors corrected.If that were to be done, it would definitely be a five star book. ...
