Needs Improving
I used this text in an elective on electrical machines and found the book very difficult to learn from.Readability is not bad.The writing is fine and easy enough to follow but the equations in the text were frequently the wrong equation for the topic.Several tables had eroneous information.While most text books contain some errata, this book contained more than any of the dozens of engineering books in my personal library.None of the end of chapter problems had any answers in order to check work.While only a nuisance, example problems in the text would reference a machine from several chapters back, requiring the reader to flip back and forth to understand the situation of the current example.I did appreciate the fact that the book includes matlab examples and exercises as to aid understanding with simulations.

Complete without being difficult
This book may be considered a reference in the study of electric machines, because it brings the main aspects of electromechanical energy conversion devices without being difficult to understand. Its way for explaining therelations of power/current/torque in induction machines is the best oneI've seen in any book.

EV reference...has all the ins and outs
This book is a great reference for anyone interested in the trade offs when creating an electric vehicle.
Electric cars rule!
This is a very informative book that can tell you pretty much everything you need to know when it comes to electric vehicles.If you want a good fiction read about electric vehicles, try 'The Wilson Concern', by Will Alan.I found it very entertaining and informative.

My first referance in my Q8 - EV

Good addition to your motor control library.
Overall, the book presents fairly practical hardware solutions to motor controllers design from industrial, automotive, to appliances. Comprehensive book on motor control
Excellent book covering all aspects of motor control.This book did a very good job of covering control electronics, intermediate drive electronics and power devices.In addition it covered distributed drive controllers, sources of noise, anddesign principals.It had examples of a range of motor drive types including AC, DC PM, brushless, etc.It relied a little too much on Motorola parts but all in all it was an excellent book and a valuable resource.

Power Up!
My job recently started to include quite a bit of Electrical Engineering such as generator sizing.I also needed to specify motor controls and electrical filters to avoid interference, and other electrical issues which I had a poor understanding of. I had suppliers and contractors asking me questions like I was some kind of electrical guru.
Comprehensive but lacking detail, some errors in answers

I think its a good book !
I had engineering science program years ago , but not much electrial circuits- just the basics. I bought this book for self-study. I read through the first eight chapters and worked a lot of the problems without much problem. I then read the chapters on the smaller electric motors and some about controls. Its not a begineers self-study book. If you have the background you can learn from this book;however, I had to read some of the material over several times to understand it. I still didn't feel like I had a good understanding about the basics of electric motors. Like how to wire them up, how to read the nameplate and so forth. This book is for the classroom and lab. The book they forgot to proof!
This is one of those books that spends more time telling you what you will learn from a chapter than what is actually presented in the material. It also asks review questions at the end of chapters that isn't explaineduntil further in the book, if at all. Misprints are numerous and in somecases the material is just plain wrong, such as paragraph 1 on page 137which claims that figure 23-1 can be locked off for safety reasons. Even iflocked the start button would cause the motor to run if held in the onposition. Hardly a 'safe' circuit. Our school required this book as part ofits motors control course and every single student in our class is totallyfed up with the errors and mistakes as well as the brevity of explanations. ... We're supposed to learn from this?
I have several problems with this book.First, the author does not provide numerical answers to the problems or the drill problems.This makes it very difficult to verify if the problem was solved correctly.Second, the examples are poorly written.It fails to answer many what-if questions one comes up with when reading the chapters.Third, the index is poorly written and makes it difficult to look up information.

detailled information
this book isnt easy to read. the illustration could be better. but on the other hand it is full of very detailed information about control of various electrical maschines (with sensors, sensorless and DTC). it gives a complete introduction to the space vector theory. a short review of different electrical maschines is also present. a basic understand of electrical maschines whould by helpfull reading this book.

Incomplete Book
The book is incomplete the cd-rom that should be part of the book not come. No simulation code is written in the book. All of the examples refer to the cd-rom that doesn't accompany the book, in spite of being suitable that it is part of the same. I sent messages for the author and for the publisher requesting the cd-rom, but I never received answer. If somebody has the codes, favor to send me because I have the need to test them. Don't buy that book, because it is expensive and incomplete.

This book is really good and helpful. I think there is only onething missing. Improving the multimachine part in chapter 9 but except of that it is amazing and very good book. Thanks a lot for the book team ...

Serious challenger to the best book on my shelf
Learning for the first time how an electrical machine works is newer easy, but how hard it is, depends a lot on the form of teaching. Professor Dr. Chi-Mun Ong has done an exelent work on how firstly to model the basic electrical machines (DC-motor, induction motor and synchronous motor) and secondly how to model the motors in a dynamic system. He describes the method of dq0-transformation of currents, voltages etc. in a nice understandable way and uses one of the best tools for constructing and solving coupled dynamic systems. The tool is ofcourse Matlab/simulink. Matlab/simulink is needed to be able to run the examples from the CDROM, but is not needed to understand the text.Read more
