I'm not sure what you want me to rate, as I never received my order.I waited over 4 weeks just to find out that globalbooksouce did not even have the item - that was after I contacted them. So, if it's the service I'm rating...it's a zero (the form doesn't have a place for zero).I know the book is good.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good book
This book thoroughly describes design procedures with numerous examples using both LRFD and ASD design, exactly what I need as an intern engineer. Sometimes I find the examples difficult to follow when units are not carried through and commentary left out; however, details are plentiful enough to eventually catch on. The AISC Manual of Steel Construction is constantly referred to and thus necessary to follow examples fully (I broke down and purchased it). Lastly, readers should be on the lookout for typos as I have spotted several.

5-0 out of 5 stars Still the Best General Steel Structural Design Book Available
Given the available books on the market for general steel structural design in the U.S., this is by far the best. The breadth of topics covered is abundant without any sacrifice in depth of full backround and commentary, which is sorely missing from other books of this kind. The layout and presentation of information is very clear and readable.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not so impressive.
This book is written by various experience P.E. or Professors. It is not emphasis on practical calculation. There are very few example and definitions for formulars and related equation. If reader has no experience before, it would be very difficult to understand. Half of the book is devoted to bridge design, and it dose not provide enough information to design a bridge..5-0 out of 5 stars Designer in structural steel is a complete book , do not buy

2-0 out of 5 stars This is an example book.
If you have some basic knowledge of LRFD design and connection. This would be an OK book. It contains so many example in many load cases and connection type. All of them are hot rolled steel or high force connection. In example it dose not tell how to retrive this equation, reference to variables, and how to use this equation.. you only have to guess. If you guess right, then it can be applicable to real construction.

5-0 out of 5 stars For engineers looking to make connections...
Tamboli's connection handbook complements the AISC Connections Manual beautifully. In a clear, easy-to-follow way, it addresses all of the major procedures for connecting structural elements and the philosophy behind them. The handbook uses thoughtful examples and good photos to explain how connections work and are built. The tips it gives, especially for connections to composite members and space trusses, are particularly helpful in practical design. I have never seen a more complete, quality connections manual, and I highly recommend it to anyone wanting to improve their knowledge of the latest connection techniques.

1-0 out of 5 stars Steel Construction Manual
The title of this book, in my mind, is a misnomer. If you're looking for a true manual of steel construction, meaning a how-to book, this isn't the book to buy. This book is centered around architecture, not down and dirty steel construction techniques. There are no methods included in the book for such things as calculating loads, yield, tensile, etc. If you want a world wide sampling of connecting means, truss designs, etc. with no dimensions in the examples then this is the book for you. In short I am very disappointed in my purchase as it doesn't suit my needs.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ideal for architects and engineers
This book gives an overview of steel in building construction, mostly its structural uses. It differs from the Concrete and Masonry versions, which lean more towards a summary of the building codes, and the Glass version, which goes on at length about solar effects, in its more lengthy review of the engineering basics involved. (But perhaps the subject lends itself to this approach, being more specialized.) The text is also the easiest to read of all the books, more than compensating for the lack of color pictures anywhere. The middle technical section covers the subject in a very orderly way, beginning with the structural properties of small components and proceeding on to the assembled skyscraper. The last sections will leave you scratching your head unless you're a structural engineer though.

5-0 out of 5 stars This is a best one.
Cold formed steel is cheap and widely supply in some country. By using the code in this book, I can reduce so much material cost from expensive imported wide flange into a self made double I beam by using 2 C light lip. This book is practical can be use in real construction by following detailed example.5-0 out of 5 stars Extensive discussion on physical behavior of steel members
Writen as a text book, this work looks at in particular the behavior of cold formed steel members. It gives complete and useful information regarding the strength of thin elements common to cold formed steel and a guide to design. The information is also very applicable to larger hot rolled steel member design in that it illustrates what design assumptions are taken for granted when designing with thicker members. Subjects included are flexural and compression members, cylindrical tubular members, connections, diaphragms, shell roofs structures, corrugated sheet, and composite design.Overall a very useful resource. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A must source for structural engineers
This is a great analysis and design book in tall buildings. You will find plenty of examples and discussions.Although the book does not get deep into some of the advanced topics, it is still a great source for structural engineers.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Practical and Useful Book
It is a very practical book containg material which will be useful to those engaged in the design of tall buildings. The unique thing about this book is the fact Taranath has given details of many important tall buildings, which will guide us before choosing a framework for the new building. He also explains how a structural system can be chosen. It has numerous practical examples. The code clauses are clearly explained. The Design for Wind and Earthquake are given in a nice manner with reference to latest codes of practices. His explanations are very easy to understand. Lateral and gravity systems for steel, concrete and composite constructions are given with numerous drawings in seperate chapters. Analysis techniques are given in an easy to understand fashion with less mathematical complexity. Design methods are also given. Discussion on related items such as damping and cladding systems,Foundation design, seismic design of Diaphragm ,etc. are also included. The data on Structural quantities will be a boon to those who want to have a preliminary estimate of the building, they are going to design. In all, it is a book worth buying and will serve as a reference for a long time. With this book and a proper software, we can design any tall building with ease. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars A little bit of information for an expensive price.
I am working as a civil engineer in a design office active in constructing light gauge steel structures. I have bought the book to obtain a guide or some kind of a handbook which includes some guidelines or procedures for typical structural steel design applications. But i hava found the book too superficial. I wish the book handled the subjects in a little bit detailed way. And I wish there were flowcharts for designing with steel. The only good thing about the book is the example projects at the end of the book. As a result I do not advise this book to anyone because it is expensive too. Pay half more and buy the Structural Steel Designer's Handbook, which includes all the information in this book and much much more.Do not pay attention to the number of pages written here, since size of the book is nearly the size of a pocket book. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars Seed files to develop steel detail CAD drawings
The author has organized the most commonly used steel details in CAD formats. I belive many engineers or enthusiast who do not have similar CAD details in their computer will appreciate Mr. Zayat's works, since the CAD files will reduce effort to develop details not form the scratch.1-0 out of 5 stars Steel Detailing
I am a Steel Detailer.I draw steel beams, columns, braces and the like for a living.I thought from the title that this was a book about steel detailing.I am sure that I should have read beyond the title because although it is called "Steel Detailing in Cad Format", it is not a book about "Steel Detailing".It is a book of "Details" for "Steel Designers."I am sure that the author and publishers did not mean to mislead, but they could have come up with a more fitting title.1-0 out of 5 stars Can someone benefit from this book?
I was surprised to find out that the book does not offer any explanations of the context, the selection critera, the constraints facing the detailer, for any of the details in the book. In fact the book does not include any explanations or calculations of any kind.Only sketches.I am a structural engineer, and I failed to find a possible way for benefiting from this book, professionaly or academicaly. ...
