5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent introduction to the structural dynamics.
I've been a seismic engineer for 9 years now. I started my master'sdegree in Earthquake Engineering back in 1993, in Okayama, Japan.
4-0 out of 5 stars Good Start for understanding Subject
Book is well suited for individuals who want to gain some understanding of dynamics as applied to structural systems. However, needs more material on how structural dynamics can be applied to computer applications. Still oneof the better books you can buy on this subject.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book

I finally had a chance to crack open the surprise inside my copy of the Quake Handbook (two CD-ROMs at the back of PART B and another in Part A). And what a surprise!!! If I printed out all of the material packed into these the 3 included CD-ROMs, you could fill your departmental library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best Civil PE Review Book I Bought
I purchased this book and several others to review for the Civil PE exam and California's special seismic exam.Although it's a fairly slim volume, it contains exactly the information you need to master in order to do wellon the seismic exam--no more, no less. Also, since it has copies of theUBC tables needed for the exam questions, you could actually use it duringthe exam as a reference instead of buying the UBC, which is much moreexpensive.Even though I had both, I found it more convenient to use thisbook during the exam.P.S. to Mr. Lendvay: I passed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helpful Reference for the Seismic PE Exam
I purchased this book to help me pass the Seismic Principles secion of the PE Exam. After taking the exam a couple days ago I must say that this book was very helpful in preparing me for the exam. This was the third time I took the Seismic Principles exam and this book helped me solve the many problems I had no clue how to solve on the previous two Seismic exams I took.If I had this book the first or second time I took the exam I probably would have passed.I am crossing my fingers that 13 weeks from now I get the good news that I passed the Seismic Principles section. My thanks go out to the people who wrote the helpful reviews and Mr. Majid Baradar.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Review Book
After learning the seismic design fundamentals, I had a chance to test myself by going over the two introduced exams of this book and I admit that these structured exams clearly indentified which areas I should stress more.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for seismic design of bridges
Professor Priestley is No. 1 in the world when it comes to seismic design and retrofit of bridges. This book is a result of his extensive research conducted for Caltrans with Prof. Seible on bridge retrofit and their seismic behavior. The book is excellent reference for researchers and design engineers. The chapter about base isolations is very informative.Although I know that this is not his area, I wish he would elaborate more in chapter 3: seismicity and geotechnical considerations

4-0 out of 5 stars It is supposed to be known as the Gray Bible for bridges
This book offers a comprehensive reference on seismic bridge design, condensing the results of three decades of experimental and theoretical research conducted in the United States, especially at University of California, San Diego. The book covers the topic of design of new structures as well as the assessment and retrofitting of already existent bridges, offering easy to use analytical and design methodologies. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Do'n miss it!
Perhaps Dr. Naeim and Dr. Kelly should have called their book "Everything the structural designer always wanted to know about seismic isolation...but was too shy to ask".
5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book in base isolation!
This book is suitable for students and engineerings. The author brings us through the history of base isolation. From the simplest rolled rocks is the past to the new technique now. Let us understand the simply theory of base isolation and its application in the world. The code provisions for seismic isolation compares the 3 design codes and its purpose in U.S. The example explains the code inadequate and too complex for practical use. The code now had made it simple! The best part of this book is his design details; Dr. Kelly had isolator design and construction experience for years. He points out many details that a new design may not considered or even noticed. It also offers specifications for isolation manufacturing and testing. With this book in hand, we can know all about base isolation.

5-0 out of 5 stars An expert's survey of events
BRACING FOR DISASTER: EARTHQUAKE-RESISTANT ARCHITECTURE AND ENGINEERING IN SAN FRANCISCO, 1838-1933 comes from a professor of architectural history at UC Berkeley who has written extensively on earthquake-resistant architecture and reconstruction, and who has investigated damage in earthquake areas around the world. His is, surprisingly, the first history of seismic engineering in San Francisco and considers what really has happened during the city's major quakes of the period - down to which buildings were damaged, which survived, and why. Over two hundred photos and diagrams compliment an expert's survey of events, which comes spiced with survivor and eyewitness accounts.
