The book is very comprehensive and gives a very accurate picture of what to expect on your plumbing exam. It makes learning the code fun and you will find out what you don't know quickly. Use it in conjuction with your code book to look up areas you are weak in. If you can answer eighty percent of the questions in the "Study Guide" correctly you will probably pass your test. Some remarkable and important points

Semi-Serious Summary of a Smelly Subject!
"Flushed" provides readers with a world-wide tour of both the earliest and latest in subjects we take for granted and usually would rather not talk about - water and sewage systems.Carter believes today's sewers date from the 3rd millennium B.C. in Mohenjodaro, a city in what is now Pakistan.All the homes had a hole built into the floor dropped into the same brick drain that took out bath water to a cesspit designed to empty into covered sewer mains as it filled up.These mains were tall enough to walk through and emptied outside the city walls into the river.Then the Hellenistic Greeks (350-150 B.C.) shortened many of the old aqueducts, using inverted siphons, and began using lead for some pipes.

An estimating book for all industry
I have used this book since 1986. It has been the cornerstone of my pipe estimating. It is easy to use and in most cases you can narrow a seemingly complicated estimating job down to a few tables. I recommend this book to any estimator charged with providing accurate budgets in industrial construction.

Most of us, in the United States at least, grew up where the supply of water was so simple. Your house was automatically connected to the city water mains when it was built and for a few dollars a month all the water you needed was supplied at the turn of a tap.

Save your Money
This book was a wasste of time and money. The book focuses more on being a pool professional then the actual "how-to" a pool owner needs to work on their pool. It has more information on changing a light fixtures and on bilking wealthy Malibu folks out of cash then actual useful information.
Helpful Tool
This book is a helpful tool for any pool owner or someone interested in having a pool.

NOT the best book to buy.
This is my first Amazon review, but I feel compelled to share this experience with others.

Buyer Beware
When it was difficult to get to the library to view the Uniform Plumbing Code, I used this at home to study for an exam. I was rudely surprised when I got to the libary, compared the references to the code, and found that this guide was riddled with errors.It serves a purpose as it alerts the user to possible code issues, but you must check all references.The codes are expensive but not as expensive as counting on this guide might be.

What a plumbing instructor thinks.
Code check has helped me immensely. I teach residential plumbing for a 150+ employee 1500+ homes a year Northern California company and have found that the info in C.C. is formatted in such a way that my apprentice plumbers can easily find info they need. They seldom need clarification. All codes cited are referenced with the UPC and IRC section numbers for easy look up.(IRC not used here in NorCal but nice for those who need it) Diagrams are simple and clear. C.C. is laminated and tough. Built for in the field use.I love this book. Holding back the fifth star due to spanish version unavailability.

Most complete and credible book on the topic
After reading a couple of books about composting toilets and graywater systems that were either suspiciously poetic or a little too humorous, I was happy to find this book. The best book out there
I would venture that the authors have forgotten more about toilets than most of the rest of us will ever know.There is no possible toilet configuration that does not receive at least cursory discussion.I only have 2 complaints about the book, both of them minor.First there were a couple of systems that I felt were described incompletely and critiqued a bit unfairly.Second, much of the book seemed to be a compilation of other writings without a lot of editing.Consequently there is significant repetition, and a presentation of information that is sometimes slightly disorganized and confusing. Impressive, comprehensive, reader friendly, practical.

Good book, good price.
I purchased this book off amazon for ~ $15. After reading the sections on planning, tools & materials, working with pvc pipe, and installing a kitchen drain I had learned enough / was confident enough to purchase all the (correct) parts I needed from the local hardware store. Then I deinstalled our lousy food disposer (which I no longer wanted) and installed a new sink strainer and pvc drain pipes in its stead. I can only speculate as to how much money I saved; as the going rate around here for a plumber is $85/hr I'd imagine I saved at least that amount, but probably more. Good investment if you're patient, a little bit handy, and can follow instructions.

Well done. Well illustrated.
Gives a great overview and dives into specifics using pictures and drawings that are very helpful. I held back one star because it did not cover wells and pumps as detailed as I would have liked.
Clear and concise!
An EXCELLENT primer for the basics of home plumbing, but maybe a little difficult for someone with absolutely NO trade experience. The projects in the book are superbly explained and illustrated, but I wonder if I would have enjoyed it as much if I weren't already a journeyman carpenter. ... Read more

helpful book
We recently remodeled a bathroom, and this book saved us time and frustration.When our first attempts at sweating copper pipes failed, we looked to this book and found very thorough instructions on each step of the process.The information on different types of solder and flux with a wider working temperature range was especially valuable.As a result, our next attempt with the copper connections was successful.The section on installing a pedestal sink was very clear and helpful, as was the information on choosing a toilet.The book also helped us diagnose and solve a problem with water hammer.I am sure that we will use this book as a resource for our next plumbing challenge.

Since I am doing a lot of remodeling, I have a lot of books, and the ones in this series are frequently the most helpful.This book give a lot of really good, specific help with plumbing, where other how-to books don't answer the detail questions you have in the middle of a project.Like how far does the toilet need to be from the wall? ... Must Read - Before you troubleshoot or repair a septic system
My septic system indicated that it was in trouble about 8 months ago. I researched a lot of material (using various books and the internet). I can tell you from experience that I could not find one definative answer or method on how troubleshoot and/or repair a sick septic system or leach line(s).
Excellent non-technical information on Septic Systems
As a newbie to septic systems faced with having to build (or have built) a septic system, I checked out this book along with a couple others from our local library.This was the only one I fully read, and I liked it so much I bought myself a copy.

Great Information - Not Quite Enough
I'm on the fence here. One reviewer thought that it was way too basic. And no, I would not attempt to install a pumped water system in my cabin based on this info solely. On the other hand, I learned TONS of things, seriously. I mean TONS. I also learned (big time) what my options are and "how these things work." There is a WONDERFUL appendix in the back containing the contact info for all kinds of suppliers, which I found very valuable. In fact, I would be pretty comfortable building a small grey water drainage system or something simple. The one thing I was dissappointed about is this - We plan to usehauled water and roof drainage in a cistern, and there is absolutely nothing about that in the book anywhere. Still, I enjoyed it.

Gave me the knowledge to troubleshoot my existing system, and build a better one. One that is economical, and environmentally friendly.

An excellent book that covers in detail all the aspects of water required at a cottage or remote site. The manner of writing is excellent and manages to make what could have been a deadly boring topic, quite interesting. Great Audel book, exactly what I needed
This book was a pleasure to find on Amazon.The authors cover all of the essential parts of a machine shop in a way that's really easy to read and understand.The book is an excellent reference. Great revision-must have for the toolbox!
