An excellent book
This is one of the best books on the subject and very good value as a guide and as a text for future reference.Good use of photos and diagrams with an emphasis on the construction and use of public hiking trails in the northeast U.S.I bought it for information and ideas to use for trail building on my own property,(with similar forest conditions) but still enjoyed reading the parts of the book intended for public trail acquisition.

Excellent overview, even for mountain bikers...
There are few trail maintenance books around, just lots of little pamphlets such as those put out by IMBA.This book is worth the money for the many ideas and pictures even for those thinking about designing and/or maintaining mountain bike trails.Read more

Good to learn about project risk for the early stages of projects
As someone who is doing my research in Project Risk Management I should say that not so many books are published on Project Risk with an academic perspective. In you search for your books in risk management you may find dozens of them in the market but most of them have a professional view and what they discuss in them do not have much academic value.

Save your money.
Am 100% pissed about losing $100 buying this piece of crap. Everyone familiar with Primavera knows that Primavera has written an excellent program P3 e/c especially for construction. I assumed Marchman knew this as well. After reading Chapter 4 (the first 80 pages being on general scheduling concepts for virgins), I tried to set up his sample project on a copy of the P3 e/c software. NO WAY. Far too much stuff was left out of the book such that it was 100% worthless. Very possible it may work on P3 e. However, as Primavera has had the P3 e/c out for quite some time, and construction companies are widely using P3 e/c -- why bother? Note that one other review rates this book as "terrible".If you read closely the remaining reviews, as of May 5, 2004, you will find they are actually for Marchman's Primavera P3 book, and are incorrectly placed here.

Network Design Done Right
In the vast body of knowledge dedicated to network design this book stands out as a single, shining example of how to do it right. Network Design Revealed!
This book is amazing. Design, of any type, is an artform.Jim McCabe is an amazing artist.He has a unique grasp of the design process.Networks are notoriously complex systems to design; so many layers, so muchtechnology, so much interdependence.Jim has captured the essence of thisnon-linear design process and has distilled it quite elegantly.This is anexcellent primer on design in general, on networks particularly and ATMbased networks most specifically.

Useful and practical advice for network managers
I am a network teacher that is preparing two courses: "Network engineering", which has to do with network design from a systems point of view. (ex. thinking about the network in a bigger context, including hosts, service, etc.) and "Information Flow analysis" which deaks with thehow-to's of elaborating a workflow model for networks and planning networks based on information flow. I have read this book and have found that it thoroughly addresses all the areas these two courses will cover.I will use it as a text and reference throughout the course of the term and would encourage others to do so as well. ... State-of-the-Art Resource on the Topic
After reviewing this book, I bought over 50 copies for distribution within the engineering and consulting firm for whom I serve as in-house counsel.It is a useful tool for construction lawyers, and a fantastic guide and education resource for design professionals who deal with contract and risk management issues.

A necessary tool
Kent Holland's Risk Management & Contract Guide for Design Professionals belongs in evey law office, insurance brokerage and design professional risk management office.It is an invaluable, easily accessible reference for the constantly reocurring topics in design professional contracting.It is usually the first volume I reach for in responding on these issues.
