5-0 out of 5 stars The Restoration Economy will help put a focus on your future
The Restoration Economy, the Greatest New Growth Frontier by Storm Cunningham is a book that bridges the gap between business/ development and conservation/landscape management. Those with a business bent will find that it brings into focus what most of us have seen over the last few decades, a shift is taking place from new development being primary to redevelopment and restoration being primary. It explains a lot about the trends in redevelopment and gives great insights into where business might concentrate as more and more oportunities present themselves to restore the built environment we all live in.Making brownfields and industrial sites more livable; rehabilitating highways and bridges; upgradingwater and waste water facilities; rebuilding after wars and natural disasters; and recreating historic sites and structures are all actions of the restoration economy.Cunningham does a superb job of showing how these activities are all pointing us in one direction: making our built environment more livable. But the story does not end there. As a society we are now also heavily involved in the restoration of forests, prairies, farms, wetlands, fisheries, etc, etc, etc. This is because humans have now been everywhere on earth, and almost everywhere that humans have been, we have left a mess that needs to be cleaned up.This provides literally thousands of oportunities for businesses, large and small, to get involved in clean up and restoration.By reading this book, one not only gets a sense of where business will be going in the future, one also gets the sense that as a society it is time to intergrate the management of built and natural environments into one comprehensive whole. This book helps us all understand more completely that the disparate sectors of our economy that have been involved in various phases of restoration now are feeling the pressure of a coming together. The more there is a coming together, the more effective will be the process of making landscapes livable throughout the world.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Restoration Economy is a Worthwhile Read
Storm Cunningham's The Restoration Economy: The Greatest New Growth Frontier: Immediate & Emerging Opportunities for Businesses, Communities & Investors is a worthwhile read for all.Businesses, unions, economic development leaders, and conservationists will truly find that this book is an exciting introduction to thinking outside the box when it comes to restoration. At last, a strong argument has been made that clearly articulates that restoration is not a "donation" to be given back to society.Indeed, restoration of both built and natural environments can be seen as fee for service and a strong source of economic vitality across the board. As the author points out, not only do communities and the natural environment benefit from restoration, but restoration can provide a strong platform for successful businesses and cutting edge economic development. In a style not unlike that of Paul Hawkin, Storm Cunningham has gifted us with a visionary yet pragmatic perspective of a bureoning Restoration Economy across multiple sectors of our current economy. It is likely that many currently unfamiliar to the promise of restoration such as bussiness, unions, and economic development leaders will find the book a useful tool in providing baseline arguements and understanding. For those already versed in the potential of restoration, this book will only strengthen and further legitimize your own efforts to advance restoration. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Ultimate Textbook for Construction Scheduling
This is one of the best, perhaps the best, construction scheduling books available in the market. The book contains all important contents in this issue. The book is very easy to understand, therefore ones without knowledge in scheduling can understand readily. Moreover, it contains several advanced topics in scheduling, including PERT, overlapping networks, and time-cost tradeoff. The author, Robert Harris, is a well-known pioneer in this field and has been a professor teaching scheduling classes at the University of Michigan for many decades.I strongly recommend this book for everyone who wants to own an excellent scheduling book. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Phenomenal resource
I am a public owner and find this book to be one of the most complete and easy to understand discussions of the design-build process that I have seen.Beard, Loulakis and Wundram are well-known industry experts and all active in the Design-Build Institute of America. They bring their years of practical experience to their writings and have a strong sense of reality.I particularly found the contract and liability chapters written by Loulakis to be very helpful.I also enjoy the other books written by Loulakis, particularly "Design-Build Lessons Learned," (2001 Edition), which has the most up-to-date analysis of design-build caselaw and is a great resource to keep up to date with this subject.I'm anxiously awaiting to see if the authors decide to come out with another book in the near future.Keep up the good work, gentlemen!

5-0 out of 5 stars An excelent guide for design-builders
Design-Build: Planning through Development covers most aspects of this project delivery method and is an excellent source of information for all the parties involved in the design and construcion business. Owners, Contractors, CMs and Designers can benefit from this book by obtaining guidelines and good orientation of how and when implement D-B as an effective project delivery method that is getting more followers everywhere. ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Yet another Cisco letdown
Once again Cisco has produced a very poor quality book.I have now purchased all the CCNP books produced by Cisco and this book is no different to the rest of them.Poor quality, No proof reading, mistakes everywhere, repeated paragraphs/tables and in this book in particular a real lack of detail. This book can be likened to the old Sunday night homework, very little planning, very little content and insufficient detail, by far the worst book in the course.I know from the other books in the CCNP range that the book will cover all subjects in the exam, but is that really good enough ?I for one don't think so.5-0 out of 5 stars You will use this book after the exam
I bought this book to study for the CIT exam (which I passed), but I found it a great reference to have on the shelf by my desk.It is chock full of the output of router and switch "show" commands and fully explains each screen.1-0 out of 5 stars bad book design
They took Cisco's CIT course and formatted it in book format, in some cases not even bothering to put sections together in a logical fashion. Chapter 2, for example, is a mess. They took the PowerPoint slides that cover protocol behavior and put them at the beginning and then tacked on the appendix from the course, which is essentially Cisco's Internetworking Technologies Overview. The result is that topics are covered twice in different styles.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars A tiresome, over-stylized bio
Get Lieberman's book (or Susan Goldeberg's) if the subject matterinterests you.If you're hungry for more Steinway lore, I suggest you readLieberman's book again, because this one is a mess. What appears on thesurface to be a well-researched biography of the Steinway family becomes anexcuse for telling various sordid scandals of the day, some of which aretotally unrelated to the subject matter at hand, and many of which arepurely speculative on the part of the author (I cannot count the number oftimes the words "possibly" and "perhaps" appear in the text.)4-0 out of 5 stars Fascinating look at 19th Century industrial America.
A long book to be read unhurried and thoughtfully. The 19th c. period is an overview of commerce "red in tooth and claw." Concerns were often different but methods much the same as now, perhaps even rougher. The last 50 pages or so hits you like a waterfall of bad decisions, bad management, and incredible lack of understanding of what pianos were and are. A very rich book indeed. ... Read more
