Packed with Information, Riddled with Typos and Omissions
I have been using this text in a wastewater engineering course. It covers the different aspects of wastewater engineering well, providing in depth treatments of each. However, the great size of this book (over 1800 pages) may also be its weakness, making it an unmanageable project for the editors.
Bible of Wastewater Engineering
This is the bible of Wastewater Engineering.I'm currently a student studying Civil/Environmental Engineering and every professor I've talked to in my department has recommended this book for any type of Wastewater Treatment Plant design.If this book doesn't have the information you want (unlikely), the WEF MOP might.

MUST HAVE FOR ALL SANITARY ENGINEERS
I can't stress enough the value in this text.Like my title states this is a must have for all sanitary engineers.The book covers everything you must know concerning wastewater treatment written by professionals working in the field.I would hope some day that they publish a book on pump stations and sanitary sewer design as well.I think that they would also be on the top of the list for these areas as well. ... Great Guide
I studied a structural engineering in college & have no background in hydraulics, but somehow ended up in site-planning. Bloviated
Agonizing drawn out overview,with little depth.
An annoying verbiage
I was interesting in buying a professional publication relative to piping engineering and, by chance, I was able to borrow this book from a technical library before doing what can not be undone. poor book
I Buy this book because needed references, general conditions and good practice to solve practical problems of pipes. However I meet with a tangled book, of little clarity and that in general it doesn't embrace the practical topics well referring a lot to the existent norms. Anyway it serves like support to the different norms to go developing a project but alone as reference and in any case like a book of easy access to solve problems on site or the day to day problems. ... Inclusive Manual
The Vickers Industrial Hydraulics Manual contains information that begins at the fundamental level and runs clear through to systems, electrohydraulics, and more.The illustrations are quite helpful, as they show cut-away views and flow.This book is appropriate for anyone who works with or in hydraulics, from the beginner to the expert.

Very Good Hydraulics Book For the beginner and novice.
I had taken a hydraulics class some 10 years ago and have worked in the field for 13 years now and I found the Vickers Industrial Hydraulics Book to be very good. It is well wrighten and easy to understand. It not onlydeals with the basics, but in depth explinations of components and evendelves into basic electrical as it applies to hydraulics. Absolute must have for Exam Review and for Everyday Engineering
This book is the absolute very best to study Hydrology and Hydraullics for classroon study. After graduation this book was used for my exam review and I reference the manual in everyday actual applications. You will find there are many books to study hydrology and hydraullics but none that is more fundamentally rich with extensive examples of real life situations. This book is the most used reference book I have used.

An excellent book for hydrology and hydraulics
I have recently graduated and am currently working as a Civil/Transportation Engineer for a consulting company.I have used the book in my Water Resources course and worked on it in my Advanced Hydrology class.The strength of the book is all the examples.Many of these are conveniently set up in Table form with a key provided at the bottom of each table.It is an excellent resource that I am using as a reference material now.
Coming from someone who knows this book inside and out...

Professional Library "must have"
This book is a great one-stop reference for engineers and designers involved in water distribution or piping networks.The topics are covered in sufficient detail, and if more information is needed, the relevant source is usually listed (e.g. AWWA publication # xxx) so the in-depth source can be found quickly.

Diagrams Please!
The text was ok except for the fact that the chapter problems did not include any illustrations.A lot of time the students had to guess at exactly what Sturm meant. Towards the end of the course it became routine for us to work the problem first and then check in the teacher's key to make sure that we set it up the way Sturm meant for us to. Schaum's Outline of Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics (Schaum's)
It is an excellent condition and delivered on time.
Good source of solved problems in fluid mechanics
I am not a mechanical engineer. Instead, I am an electrical engineer who took an undergraduate fluid mechanics class last fall to help with some graphical simulation work I was doing. However, I still had to pass the same examinations and do the same homework as the other students who did have a mechanical engineering background, and I found this outline immensely helpful. This book is an excellent source of problem-solving techniques and exercises for anyone who is taking an undergraduate course in fluid mechanics, which is the branch of science concerned with how fluids behave at rest or in motion. This outline assumes that you are already familiar with statics and with calculus, and it makes heavy use of both subjects. There is not a lot of verbal explanation in this outline. Explanation is done mainly through the introduction of some formulas, and then some completely worked out examples using those formulas. It is not at all dry in its presentation, however, and makes heavy and appropriate use of instructive figures and diagrams. Fluid mechanics is about solving problems, and the most difficult part is analyzing the system and reducing it to a series of equations. Once this has been achieved there are a number of standard methods that can be used to solve them. This book gives a good amount of practice at allowing the student to figure out how to approach larger problems in chapters 8 through 10 - "Flow in Closed Conduits", "Complex Pipeline Systems", and "Flow in Open Channels", and also in the final chapter of the outline "Fluid Machinery". This book is a great companion to Munson's "Fundamentals of Fluid Mechanics", which is the best textbook on the subject that I have encountered.

Recommended for Reference/Overview
Like all of the Schaum guides for subjects in Mechanical Engineering, this outline provides a good overview of fluid mechanics, but it doesn't go into a great deal of depth. It's easy to find the equations if you want to usethe book as a reference manual or a study guide, and the problems can serveas a good supplement to an undergraduate class in Fluids. ... Read more

Great information!
Very thorough.Just the information I needed to determine what type of dock to build on my lakefront property.

Something Missing
Yes, this book provides a well-illustrated overview of approaches to dock building and choices of materials. But it doesn't go far enough if you have a significant tidal range or if the wind blows. What's missing is any introduction to engineering. How to make sure the ramp doesn't fall off your float when the tide goes out. How to figure the static forces on your dock caused by 4 knot currents. How to estimate the wave heights and dynamic forces in 80 knot winds. And how to design a dock that will survive this abuse. You might want to involve a professional engineer in these situations, but that can be true of pretty much anything to do with docks. A book with this title should at least introduce you to these subjects and provide references for the gory details. Like some others, the author believes books like this should be peppered with jokes. Personally I find this annoying, but I must admit his jokes are above average. So if you want a funny introduction to building docks in gentle places, this book is for you.

Good, could be better
As teacher of an Environmental Engineering course (at Ariel Academic College, Israel) and as consulting engineer, I find the book useful, but... Some areas are weak: Population and demand prognosis, Resource planning, Economic evaluation and optimization, Advanced water treatment (membrane and ion exchange technologies, for example), Desalination of brackish and sea water. Each chapter has a well explained exercise, a very useful feature, but most are non metric. All in all, I know of no better textbook, and it is worth its money.

PE Review Manual
The review manual has been very helpful in preparing for the exam so far.It has many problems with complete worked out solutions that are very helpful.I would recommend it to anyone preparing for the PE exam.

Excellent Review book from practice problems
If your taking the tranportation Depth this is an excellent review book. It covers topics reflective of the NCEES description of the transportation Depth (except that part about Hydraulics/Hydrology and Culvert part and Geotechnical part). The only drawback with this book is that some of the problems are on the a bit easy compared to practice problems for CERM and NCEES sample examination, which may give you a false sense of security when preparing for the PE.
