5-0 out of 5 stars The ONLY Book You Need
This is the only book you need for the morning session.I took the Civil PE exam 4 years ago, and I have since lent the same book to two colleagues who passed without much studying.I am not trying to discourage studying here, but just want to stress how useful this book is.It is very well organized and if you don't know something in the exam, just look it up in the index and voila, that's exactly what the question was asking.
4-0 out of 5 stars Civil Engineering Reference Manual for the PE EXAM aka Lindeburg Book
Very helpful, not just on the exam but in day to day quick reference use in the work place.

5-0 out of 5 stars very good all-around reference
I primarily work as a structural-architectural engineer and am becoming more and more involved in civil-site work. This handbook is exactly what I was looking for in terms of something that would quickly get me "up to speed" in the fundamentals of civil-site design.1-0 out of 5 stars Difficult to follow!
I am in a class at Community College of Baltimore Countyand we are using this book at this time. Our whole class along with the Professor find this book to be very difficult to follow. The book constantly repeats itself making it extremely boring to read and is not fluent at all. They have examples that reference charts that are 3-5 pages apart from the problem being discussed the formulas you almost have to figure out for yourself how they are used and there are alot of typos.5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have Pub
Ever since I purchased this publication I can't stop using it.Every civil engineer should have this as part of their reference library, regardless of your area of specialty. It providesmacro to micro scale explanations of general processes, design applications, etc in a very readable format.More times than I can remember I have looked to this book for an answer or at least for some guidance and was throuroughly satisfied. No it is not a definitive reference for civil engineers but its' breadth and usability overshadows any technical shortcomings. If I had to have just one reference book for my area of practice (general civil), this would be it.Yeah, yeah, the "Standard Handbook for Civil Engineers" is a more definitive reference, but I usually find out what I need in this pub.Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Poor answer key
The book explained the concepts of the subject well enough, but the number of typos in the problems and in the answer key led to many hours of frustration. I was often under the impression I was doing something wrong, only to find out the givens in a problem had incorrect prefixes, or some other error.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Coverage of Complex Material
This book provides the reader with a good basic understanding of the subject.I recommend it to the apprentice engineer or designer or technician wanting to gain a good understanding of the basics of how loads and materials affect the shape of structures and machine design.

3-0 out of 5 stars Packed with Information, Riddled with Typos and Omissions
I have been using this text in a wastewater engineering course. It covers the different aspects of wastewater engineering well, providing in depth treatments of each. However, the great size of this book (over 1800 pages) may also be its weakness, making it an unmanageable project for the editors.
5-0 out of 5 stars Bible of Wastewater Engineering
This is the bible of Wastewater Engineering.I'm currently a student studying Civil/Environmental Engineering and every professor I've talked to in my department has recommended this book for any type of Wastewater Treatment Plant design. If this book doesn't have the information you want (unlikely), the WEF MOP might.

5-0 out of 5 stars MUST HAVE FOR ALL SANITARY ENGINEERS
I can't stress enough the value in this text.Like my title states this is a must have for all sanitary engineers. The book covers everything you must know concerning wastewater treatment written by professionals working in the field.I would hope some day that they publish a book on pump stations and sanitary sewer design as well.I think that they would also be on the top of the list for these areas as well. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Useful and interesting - STRONGLY RECOMMENDED
Despite the intimidating name and size of this tome, I found it fascinating to read. It covers everything from light bulb selection to rooftop chiller maintenance. The depth and breath of coverage is amazing.
5-0 out of 5 stars Superlative! A must have!
Superlative! The ENERGY EFFICIENCY MANUAL by Donald Wulfinghoff is a "must have" for professionals, libraries, facility managers, policy makers, homeowners, and anyone else who is serious about saving energy and cashing in on lower energy bills. It is the ultimate energy saving resource for businesses, industry, and government.PLUS, it will save money and reduce pollution, satisfying corporate bottom lines, policy makers, and environmentalists all at the same time. This book is unique.Highly informative, illustration-rich, and user-friendly, it is treasure trove of everything you need to know about energy efficiency from A to Z. Don't bother looking elsewhere --the ENERGY EFFICIENCY MANUAL simply has it all. This book will pay for itself almost as fast as you can spot a hot air leak or install an energy-efficient light bulb!5-0 out of 5 stars A secret weapon for the energy auditor
As an energy auditor I'd almost call the Energy Efficiency Manual a secret weapon, except it has so many good ideas that I can't help but show it to many of the customers and prospective customers I meet. The diagrams are very useful, as is the self contained but well cross-referenced way in which each improvement measure has been written. For example, talking to the maintenance manager of a hospital, we looked at the diagrams of hot/cold deck multi-zone systems while discussing the pros and cons of upgrading a constant volume air conditioning system to a variable volume system. It is by far the most useful book on energy management that I have ever read (well, in the case of the Energy Efficiency Manual, that I have partially read - its an enormously large book!), and the ratings of each of the measures are particularly useful, along with the practical, no-nonsense approach. The book is extremely well cross referenced and Wulfinghoff has covered an enormous body of knowledge in writing the book. As someone fairly new to the field I'm grateful that he went to the effort of documenting and making available his knowledge and 30 odd years experience in the Energy Efficiency Manual. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Surveyor's Bible
While preparing for my licensing exam, I read this book from cover to cover. It addresses every principle of retracement (sequential and simultaneous conveyances), public lands, and riparian issues thoroughly. The highlighted "principle" at the heading of each new topic makes remembering the main points simple. I can honestly say that every question on the NCEES exam that dealt with general principles and practice was answered in this book. I passed on my first sitting, and this book was one of the main reasons why. If you can only study one reference, this is it. Every practicing surveyor should also refer to it regularly.

5-0 out of 5 stars Lean Production for everyone
Japan manufacturing revolutionized the automobile industry.Japan transformed the automobile industry by applying ideal perfection conditions of zero defect products, reduced inventories, and the generation of endless product inventories. How did Japan accomplish this breakaway?Lean production is the answer.Lean production allowed the Japanese to reduce human labor by ½, manufacturing production space by ½, capital investment by ½, required engineering hours by ½, and reduced production time by ½. US automobile companies were on the defensive and rather than compete head to head in quality and competitiveness with their Japanese counterparts they sought refuge in the political system.
2-0 out of 5 stars Misleading and dated
This is a fairly poorly researched book, despite the authors' credentials; their history of American automobiles is grossly inaccurate and only serves to reinforce incorrect stereotypes. They spend very little time actually describing lean production, preferring to talk about how every other company will go bankrupt because they don't have it. The misreading of the Volvo story is also rather galling, though to be fair, Volvo's team-based approach was already being dismantled (for non-

5-0 out of 5 stars A must - read for anyone involved in complex development partnerships
Although this book addressed many tricky scenarios for land use and development, it was the only definitive guide I could find that addressed the acquisition of funding for commercial (high density residential) projects involving multiple partners. I'm sure I will be referring back to it regularly!

4-0 out of 5 stars Great Site Design Reference
I was a bit tentative when I started to use this text. The book has some minor editing problems, but if your desire is to really understand site design with an emphasis on drainage and grading plan design this text does the trick and does it well. I would recommend this book to any Jr. land development designer/engineer as a must have reference.

2-0 out of 5 stars Concise, but Too Simplified
Come on, you need to know much more than what was in this book to be a structural engineer.I bought the 3rd edition right when it was fresh off the press to prepare for the NCEES Structural II exam in April 2006.I didn't take the Structural I exam so I can't say if this book is more tailored to that. However, I have to say I passed in spite of this book. The examples in the book are easy to follow, but for a good portion of them they only cover the easy special cases, not the more elaborate, more complicated variations. For how thin this book is, I think it is outrageously expensive.I was also disappointed that the concrete design aids are not updated to the current code with the revised factors.
2-0 out of 5 stars Nothing new in the 2nd Edition
This book is good to give a quick start on your exam review. However, it is unbelievable that the new Dec 2004 version, or 2nd Edition, is still not updated to ACI-02, IBC-03, .... It is really of no big difference from its 1st edition. To those who expect to use this for your 2005 Structural I exam, be cautious about the code reference. I have so far gone through concrete, footing, prestressed concrete, and seismic. Many equations, load factors, code Equation and Section numbers are not updated. I have to say that LOTS of them are obsolete. It would be a very good reference if the author had taken time to do his homework in revising the materials. I am extremely disappointed for what turned out to be in this 2nd Edition. It does not worth the money you pay, and in many places, it leads you to obsolete code information which either wastes your time in review or affects your score in the PE/SE exam.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good, but a ways to go...
While there are several good sources for worked sample problems available, as far as I know this is the first true review manual for the NCEES Structural Engineering Exams.I for one am glad someone finally brought book like this to market.Having worked with it for several months now, I must say my impression is that while quite good, it may have been rushed to market a bit prematurely. In light of therelatively hefty price tag, it seems like there should be a bit more depth.Concise is one thing, but Williams typically launches into a subject with little or no commentary, opting instead to let the equations do the talking. If you have a question about assumptions or how to apply an equation you're left scrambling for other references.I may be a bit spoiled having just used PPI's Mechanical Engineering Reference Manual to earn my Mechanical PE license. This is the model Williams should follow for future revisions to his work. The MERM is a stand-alone document that both teaches you the basics of a subject and documents all the required data and formulas.I would imagine by the time this book has been revised to include all it should it will have roughly doubled in thickness.Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars From architecture point of view ....
It's very good book in structure ( I will never use best or perfect in myreview ). It's not sophisticated and not too excessive for architecturestudent. After reading this book you will know that structure design is notdifficult it seems though it's not easy anyway. For architecture student,if you need only one book in structure this is the right book especially inunderstanding rigid frame structure, explained in hundreds of pages ! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars I was there.
I was one of the students in Don Coduto's graduate level class that helped him "use" this book when it was in the final review stages. We helped him find all the little mistakes before final publishing.I still carry around that old 700+ page volume of a notebook we had for that class. It's nice to see it finally published. It is an OUTSTANDING book making geotechincal work more readily accessible to the average engineer. The example problems will help one grasp the concepts faster.Don can always be contacted with questions as well.ENJOY.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent entry level geotechnical engineering book
This book is very easy to follow. It shows explainations, concepts, theories, and provides beautiful examples. Excellent book for undergraduate studies.

5-0 out of 5 stars The best help for a newcomer to geotechnical engineering...
This excellent text eased my transition from analytical chemistry work and toxicology into the fascinating field of geotechnical engineering, helping me grasp both the methodology and the reasoning behind numerous geotechnical analyses -- from the most fundamental basics of soil classification to the empirical, working, and theoretical underpinnings of rising head/falling tail flexible membrane permeametry. Coduto's book also sheds rays of light upon the ephemeral calculations beloved by the writers of ASTM methodology: Get this book, you will not be disappointed! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An all time classic
From the masters of the finite element method, this may well be the best book ever written on the subject. In this book, the authors come across as the sages of ancient India preaching what they know is the best, guiding us, and setting a stage of research for the years to come. This is a monumental piece of work in the history of engineering.

5-0 out of 5 stars The milestone in FE analysis
This book is really THE milestone, the only one I really enjoy. A page-turner, a must for all people into FE stuff.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for starters in the field
This is the ideal book for beginners in finite elements, though the approach is slightly more theoretical. If you have a good background in linear algebra and are comfortable with matrices etc, you should have notrouble finishing this one. You can aim at the definitive work by ProfessorBathe after finishing this one. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars It's just a desk, of field, reference.
I've read several other of the reviews, and feel the need to add a little to the conversation.
4-0 out of 5 stars excelent andgood reference
I found it most complete reference for civil engineers ,I always carry this book in my travels ,I found it complete in this fields: safety and health concerns, and the most current codes changes including ACI, AISC, ASTM,
4-0 out of 5 stars Still the bestCivilHandbook
The fifth edition update mainly reflects changes in code requirements for structural engineering.Other sections seem barely changed from the fourth edition. The water resources chapter has several misprinted tables.Use the corresponding tables out of the fourth edition.Read more
