A classic text in a new edition.
Having worn out my original copy, purchased almost 40 year ago,
This book is no joke
If you want to know transport well, this is the best book out for anyone.These guys weren't playing games when the they wrote this book.This book is serious, but don't use it as your introductory transport book beacues it is too advanced to start with, due to the fact that it is a graduate text.Once you have a grasp for the subject then you definitely need to check it out.Look in any other book and they will have it as a reference.I dont't know why these guys don't write more books.

Good, but not great
First let me stress, this subject is hard, very hard.This may very well be the toughest subject you take in college.Regarding the book, it has some very strong points, and some very week points.

A Chemical Engineering Classic
Some prior reviewers are mistaken about this book being an annotation of Perry or of little value. The "unit operations" are the framework of chemical engineering. McCabe and Smith was the definitive work on unit operations when I was a student in the 1960's. Updated and with additional authors, it still is.

Excellent book
Warren McCabe has written a unit operations book that is most adequately utilized for fluid mechanics.The separations sections are slightly abbreviated, and lack more refined details that might be found in a more specialized work.However, as a student in a separations course, I found myself referencing this book several times.The examples in the chapters were 'open-ended' enough to require real engineering problem-solving skills. Overall, an extremely well put-together text.

fluid mechanics ,transprtation of fluids
it is the best books i have ever read in my semester ofchemical engineering. the topic i like the most, is transportation offluids .this book is recommended by my professor. the matter of turbulent flow and laminar flow is just fantastic. Read more

Excellent book
This book is a must for those who want to get involved in water treatment.

Unit Operations and Processes in Environmental Engineering
Good and well organized book for a graduate class in environmental/sanitary engineering.Unlike the traditionally used book, it is organized for easy reference and study.It includes most of the unitprocesses to consider in the desing of wastewater and water treatmentplants.I wish it would expand a litte more in the water part. Thewastewater is covered very well. It is a good book to keep as a reference.Answer to key problems are provided for easiness of verification ofprocess. Fluid Mechanics
This book is very vague in some of the proofs that it contains, however if you have a good understanding of differential equations and some thermodynamics it is fairly easy to follow along, it does make a lot of assumptions that it doesnt explain, so there will be times when you are left scratching your head about a statement they have made, would be nice if it included an index to reference material within the book, i have found it useful in my work (biochemical engineering), however it is not a book i would recommend buying unless you have a working knowledge of the area or someone who does to help you

Biological fluid dynamics - first of its kind
A honest truth is that, to can understand the concept in this book, you must need the help of an expert like your professor or TA. The material is hard to follow, many of the proofs are incomplete/ or lack adequate steps. The assumptions are not explicity made, which will lead you to ponder on one problem for many hours.

The best book I've ever read
Just in general, i think this book is just soooo coool.I especially enjoyed the fourth order classical runge-kutta method.Professor Schiesser and Cesar knows what they are talking about, NO?

Good 1st transport book for grads
I got so involved with this book that I virtually wrote notes on every single page.The amount of useful information in this book has exceeded the tolerance the binding has for my handling.And I even took good care of it too!After my organic chemistry text, I'd say that I spent more time with this book than any other on my shelf.

Briliant!!
This book is well organized, well detailed, and well articulated. The lessons are useful and the text approachable for an academic work. I've read / had to use many other textbooks in my pursuit of a chemical engineering education and this is the best. I give it a whole-hearted recommendation for any serious student.

I heart this book
This book would be better if the author didnt have a tendancy to leave steps out of most his examples.Problems at the end of the chapters can be really difficult.I highly suggest using another book, or atleast having a good undergraduate text to supplement this one. ... Read more

It is the condensed essence of Bird Stewart & Lightfoot
I'm a professional chemical engineer who studied under Dr. Thomson 25+ years ago.Transport Phenomena by Bird Stewart & Lightfoot was the standard then.Chemical engineering students had a heck of a time relating to the material.As a subject, transport phenomena is a lot of math applied to practical problems.Fledgling chemical engineers have tended to need a primer that is more grounded in practical matters.
For Better or Worse...
I have had Dr. Thomson as an instructor and have used his book for three separate classes.I find the book difficult to follow at times.The end of chapter problems are confusing and seldom can be completed by following the material covered in the text.The book, which is not on its first edition, is filled with "minor errors" (for example, constants and/or exponents in presented equations are incorrect).On the plus side, the unit conversions in the appendices are very useful. ... good information, good reading
this book tells of history of different special operation forces. however it should go into more detail with each, but i guess this makes a good eye opener of what each group is and how they're different. there were some cool things about the air force, but i thought they could've removed the part about coast guard.

So Far So Good.
I'm on the chapter about the 10th Mountain Division and so far this book is a great read.I know a lot about SOF but this book tossed in a few things I didn't know.I've never known much about the 10th Mountain Division.And the Coast Guard spec ops guys aren't really special operations.They're Special Operations Capable.I think the Marin Force Recon is gonna be considered SOF now cause they committed a select few to SOCOM in 02.It's about timeis all I can say.The Navy didn't want SEALs under SOCOM's command but look where it's gotten them.Although they lost a lot of men at Patilla Airfield in Panama, they still accomplished the mission.This is definately a good read for anybody interested in U.S. SOF.

Great Little Book
I was suprised at how small this book was, but it's still a very good book on US Special Operations Units. It gives a brief history of each unit, describes the selection and training programs, and lists the missions each unit has taken part in. There is also a section on the equipment and weapons they use. This book and "America's Special Forces" by David Boher are probably the two best books on the subject. ... Read more

Good for separations techniques
The only review that I can give for the text would be for the separations sections, of which our class concentrated mainly on the distillation regime.Excellent structured pairing of chapter labeling with homework and example problems.Open-ended problems required a sufficient level of engineering skills. ... Chem Eng at MTU
I Found this book to be great, and attending one of only two schools in the nation that has a unit operations lab with several pilot plants righ in the chemical engineering building, it was a indisposable resource. The examples were great the text was easy to use, and even the price wasnt bad. Next to Perry's this book is the most important chem E book of the arsnal. I feel sorry for those who didnt like this text. it is quite possibly some of the easy to read and learn from text i have ever had the pleaser to work with.

excellent text book
Geankoplis was listed as a reference text for our transport operations class, McCabe being the primary text for the course. I'm glad that I spent the extra money to acquire the textTransport Processes and Unit Operations because it was far better at teaching problem solving methods, especially other methods rather than just McCabe Thiele diagrams. It was a more comphrehensive treatment of the subject.

Excellent reference
This book is an excellent reference for chemical engineering students. As a textbook, this is not a good choice. Geankoplis put every aspects needed for learning unit operations.
