3-0 out of 5 stars Analysis, Synthesis, and Design of Chemical Processes, Second Edition
Item received as described. Took much longer than expected. Seller didn't notify me that there would be a two week delay until I contacted them and waited several days for a response.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great ChemE Book
I really like how they focused on Hysys which is what is mostly used in industry. This is a great book for undergrads and grad taking designs in chemical engineering. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Chemical Engineering Classic
Some prior reviewers are mistaken about this book being an annotation of Perry or of little value. The "unit operations" are the framework of chemical engineering. McCabe and Smith was the definitive work on unit operations when I was a student in the 1960's. Updated and with additional authors, it still is.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book
Warren McCabe has written a unit operations book that is most adequately utilized for fluid mechanics. The separations sections are slightly abbreviated, and lack more refined details that might be found in a more specialized work. However, as a student in a separations course, I found myself referencing this book several times. The examples in the chapters were 'open-ended' enough to require real engineering problem-solving skills. Overall, an extremely well put-together text.

5-0 out of 5 stars fluid mechanics ,transprtation of fluids
it is the best books i have ever read in my semester ofchemical engineering. the topic i like the most, is transportation offluids .this book is recommended by my professor. the matter of turbulent flow and laminar flow is just fantastic. Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Abolsutely Horrible
I'm taking the class that goes along with this book at my school and I have to say this is the worst book I have ever seen. Yes it presents material and all that but it does so with very little explanation. If you don't understand it right away this book won't help at all, it won't explain any more, do any detailed examples, or help you with homework solutions. The only thing that could save this book is an answer solutions book because then you could learn from all of the homework problems. Without that, the homework is a complete mystery because most of it is never even taught in the chapter they just expect you to know it from somewhere else. In conclusion, DO NOT but this book unless you have no other option.

5-0 out of 5 stars From an Industrial Practitioner of Process Measurement & Control
This book is an excellent reference on Chemical Processes Principles and Calculations for any engineer or practitioner working in the process industries. I am an Electronic Engineer, but I have been working for the last 16 years as an Instrumentation, Automation and Process Control Engineer for the Oil & Gas Industry. As a result I have been involved with Chemical Engineering issues in a day to day basic.

4-0 out of 5 stars This is Not Perry's
The book starts out with some refinery flow sheets for making 'grasoline' from 'californing' crude.Process control is simple enough. The next section on fluid flow uses non-standard equations which are overly complex. The same goes for heat transfer.Fair does a good job on distillation.Reaction engineering is completly omited from this text.

4-0 out of 5 stars The most practical chemical engineering reference book
For the working chemical process design engineer, this is the best reference I've come across. It tells you how to pick equipment and generally how to determine equipment sizes. As a design or procurement engineer you work with vendors to make final equipment selection, but this book gives you what you need to know before you start talking to the vendors. It bridges the gap between theory you can get from textbooks and detailed applications you can get from sales literature.I'm surprised this book hasn't caught on as a standard in the chemical engineering profession ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Same old stuff.
This book is a rehash of the same old stuff every other bood on process simulation has. It's heavily biased towards Aspen and Hysys to boot.More information about Chemcad and Pro II would have been very helpful. It would have given the reader a wider view of the discipline.

3-0 out of 5 stars Only good if you want to do simulations
As for using this book for design - I would say that it is marginal at best.If you happen to use Aspen and do everything using a process simulator, this book is pretty good. From and economics/costing standpoint, this book doesn't even come close to Peters & Timmerhaus.Does not have much of a discussion on material selection - a definite drawback. It does include a nice appendix on design heuristics that draws from Walas and other sources.

4-0 out of 5 stars Fair good
This book is really good for process engineers. I don't know if there is a different edition of the one I have but there's little about CHEMCAD, the book is too focused on other simulation softwares and if you don't have one of those; solving some proposed problems gets really difficult and frustating. Packed with heuriustics on process and equipment design.Excellent choice! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Introductory Book - So Clear that is Suitable for Self-Study

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book
I have just finished a postgraduate course in process dynamics based on this book. I have a maths background so I found some of the concepts hard going at the start of the course. I have used this book costantly throughout the course and I have found it to be excellent. It has really helped my understanding of the subject, so much so that I want to write my Master`s thesis in process engineering and process dynamics. I have enjoyed everything about the course and it is all because of this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars A beautifully written, immaculate textbook
Process dynamics and control is a vast subject, profoundly important for maximizing value in plant operations, but unfortunately often neglected by undergraduate students. This book by three of the most illustrious professors of chemical engineering distills their expertise and wisdom, as teachers with about 100 years combined teaching experience, into a highly accessible and cogent textbook. The book contains excellent discussions and expositions of just about all the technical concepts one would ever need in industrial practice. The example problems are juicy, to say the least, and complement the text very nicely. Those who know how to use Matlab or Mathematica will benefit hugely from solving the computer problems. In my opinion, this book should be a required text for all undergraduate chemical engineering programs, along with the book by Prof. Harmon Ray and B. Ogunnaike (Oxford). ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not very practial
I'm a bit dissapointed with this book. It basically consist out of two parts, one explaining what molding/extrusion is, the other giving a (very) high level overview of SPC. I would have hoped to see how SPC can applied/implemented IN an injection molding environment, however it's just not there.
3-0 out of 5 stars Process Control and SPC
In preface of the book the author states that people who does not know about process controls teach most SPC courses. I say Amen! And also it should be added that it is difficult to contain SPC and Process knowledge of an important process like extrusion together in 230 pages and most.If you are new to extrusion there is enough basic information in the first half of the book. If you are already in Process Controls don't waste your time reading. Page 130 starts with basic statistical information; definitions, control charts, then Process capability and some basic DOE and nothing about modern techniques. Even though the title of book explains SPC as Statistical Process Control, there are not much about control theories and practical controls applications. After reading this book I would say SPC is for Statistical Process Charting. There are some formulas and references to SPC software packages with no value.5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book on SPC for Extrusion and Injection Molding
I am a grateful reader who used Dr. Rauwendaal's first book on SPC tosolve real world extrusion problems. His second book, SPC in InjectionMolding and Extrusion is even better and covers injection molding too.Ina nutshell, this book gives the interested reader, technical or not, management or in the trenches, everything he or she needs to successfullyunderstand and apply SPC in extrusion and injection molding manufacturingoperations. That's a big statement, but I can back it up with thisstory.Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Wilkes
This is the worst text book I have ever used. I used it for an independent study class and my professor agreed that the topics were not rigorously explained. In addition, frequent assumptions were made without explination and referals were made to "lecture notes," which is, of course, useless if you aren't taking this man's lecture.

5-0 out of 5 stars compatible with any classroom text
I think that this book is an indispensable guide for fluid mechanics. It is easy to understand and it lets you progress with your pace with its solved examples. And one can excel in fluid mechanics by solving the suggesred problems of the book. This book not only helps you to understand the concept mathematically but gives the physical meanings of the problems.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is concise, clear and easy to understand.
I have a good chance to study this course with Prof. Wilkes at Petroleum and petrochemical college, Chulalonkorn University in Thailand. This book is very useful for me because it's easy to understand and clear in everystep. For example, some part of the fluid mechanics, I think it's verydifficult for me to understand in the past(in bachelor's degree) but when Istudy this book, it make me clear and easy.I think this book is suitablefor the beginner thanthe others that I met before. ...
