Alien among us
Hans Rudi Giger, a direct descendant of Hieronymus Bosch, H.P. Lovecraft and Salvador Dali, is a unique artist whose works depict cosmological visions and nightmarish dream-state revelations. As you leaf through the glorious illustrations in 'H.R. Giger's Biomechanics', you begin to realize that it takes a deviant personality to create deviant art of this caliber. The kind of paintings on display here are something nobody could conceive without total 24/7 commitment to unleashing the subconscious for all the world to see.
Good introduction to his more complicated works

Only an introduction to biomechanics
I am a grad student in biology who recently got interested in spider silk biomechanics. I was looking for a good book on biomechanics and my advisor suggested that I get this one. It was so disappointing !
Best introductory physics textbook ever
This book would be a fantastic text for an introductory physics class, eg, mechanics classes aimed at future doctors.It begins with the "simple" problem of walking, which can be understood as an oscillation, with the frequency tuned to the length of your legs.From there, the book proceeds to dimensional analysis, and treats the biomechanical universe as a set of simple tubes, surfaces, flows, beams, and levers, all amenable to simple calculation and estimation.This book contains more real, relevant physics than any introductory physics text (with the possible exception of the Feynman lectures, which are totally unsuited for first-year students).It is the best physics textbook we know.(Review co-written by Dr Sanjoy Mahajan, Department of Physics, University of Cambridge).

What a great learning experience!
The wonderful and numerous color pictures, the mass amount of info. I have been waiting for a textbook like this for years. My students have found the text very useful and important when studying for exams. This book has made my school maintain its high standard for its curriculum. My instructors have found it to be straightforward and unproblematic to teach from. I can't wait for more from Sandy Fritz! Wonderful I will recommend to all in the profession.

I learned a lot
I am just finishing massage school and used this textbook. The way the information was explained and the learning activites helped so much. All the information about the sciences related to massage making the reading interesting. The chapters on muscles and biomechanices were especially interesting.Even if you have used a different anatomy and physiology text book I really suggest you get this one to understand how the information relates to massage

don't buy this!!
Where do I begin?Poorly written, concepts partially explained then abandoned, useless index, inanely esoteric exercises.If you are writing a science book why not present the facts in a logical fashion.I read the intro & preface & I know what they were trying to achieve but they failed.Classmates with & without science backgrounds were equally appalled by the uselessnes of this text!Every classmate gave it a thumbs down.Can't believe my school was duped into using this book. ... quality and timeliness
the book came as represented very new wonderful condition and timely; but with a 30% discount which was hard to find elsewhere

An extremely well written book with the layman in mind!
The Fitness Professional will find themselves refering to this book ever so often as it covers all areas from the reason why one should be conditioned for this sport to flexibility tests, the importance of stretching and how to warm up for golf (- an area most often skipped by golf enthusiats) functional exercise (- and the importance of it) strength & power exercises. An important aspect is also that exercises should be progressed from flexibility to stability to strength and finally power to enhance performance and be injury free.The diagrams are excellent for convincing and explaining to clients. Infact the concepts in this book has carry over to any other sport that requires you to move as an integrated whole!!

Bio book
Easy to follow.Starts off easy and adjusts with a learning curve for all interesting in different aspects of Biomechanics.

Very in depth
Book is very in depth. Pictures in the book are pretty lame.Although, everything is explained well in the book.Not worth 65 dollars, buy the product used if you can.

A Masterpiece in Biomechanics!
What I would say is not a comprehensive review of what the great book talks, but just telling you a truth: if you have engineering and mathamatics background and wanna combine your background to do research in physiology, Fung's book is absolutely a must-buy. This book is profound, but it is actually rooted in nearly all fields of biomechanics research. Simply the Best
Fung takes a continuum mechanics approach to the principles that underly the human body.All of the ideas in the text are backed up with solid research and easy to understand equations, as well as text descriptions.Fung is also responsible for researching many of the ideas of biomechanics,and so, the text takes on a personal view not found in other books. Definitely not an introduction!!!!!!!
The author is deeply oriented to biomechanics of fluids both in the first and second part of the book,despite the fact it is supposed to have different approaches. The first chapters are devoted to complex mathematical demonstrations ofstress-strain models and materials engineering, topics that shouldn't be considered to be suitable for starting studying biomechanics.Read more

Biomechanics for Biomedical Engineering Freshman
The book covers both the anatomy and the mechanics of the human body. The mechanics is rather basic but suitable for undergaduates who have not taken a proper course in engineering mechanics. The materials on anatomy are well presented. The book gives a good introduction of the application of engineering mechanics to the analysis of the human body mechanical systems. I have recommended this as a text for my first year (second semester) biomedical engineering students. Very suitable for students who have followed a basic course in anatomy and high school mathematics.

Useful in occupational medicine, ergonomics and orthopedics
This work is more related to sport medicine. Nevertheless, this detailed study in anatomy, physiology, kinesiology and trauma makes it very useful to occupational physicians and orthopedists, since it allows a betterunderstanding of ergonomics and musculoskeletal injuries, including theoveruse ones.
