This IS THE BOOK of ChE Thermodynamics
I like this book. Rationale:
Not for the undergrad!!!!!!
It always gets to me why university professors think they have to assign an upper-grad level book to undergrads students because their doing a favor for their collegue (author) instead of thinking toward their students. This book is definetly an upper grad level book. It has few examples and is written at a level that is not introductory. I'm not saying this isn't a good book but what I'm saying is it's NOT for the undergraduate student. Professors need to think of their students first!!!!!! The 2 stars are rated toward undergrad level.

Comprehensive thinking for hard-skill management
Manufacturing is a combination of soft and hard skill.The soft-skill is about people and how to manage them.This skill is obvious in several text and business management book.The hard-skill, however, is quite rare.Fortunately, Wright combines it in nice -easy to read format. An excellent text - definitely recommended
This book is like a breath of fresh air - A totally new and innovative view of manufacturing. It was very different from the traditional boring and dry manufacturing texts I have been used to reading. The book takes a look not only at manufacturing processes but also other aspects like product development and business plans - parts I have not seen in any other textbook.To sum up, I would definitely recommend the book !

Very good elementary representations of dislocation theory.

A must on your professional library
This book and the companion volumes are some of the best tools available for process engieers in the design business. Ludwig has been able to capture a balance between the theory and the real world.An excellentapplication book highly illustrated and with excellent method summaries andexamples.

Good introductory text and overview of the industry
I read From Alchemy to IPO for an MBA course on entrepreneurialism in the pharmaceutical industry. Given my background (undergraduate business, financial analyst role, limited in-depth scientific knowledge), I found this book to be a very useful and balanced guide to both the business and technical aspects of biotechnology.
Brilliant Overview
This is a great overview of the world of biotech.The author explains the science with clarity and enthusiasm and the introduction this book provides to the corporate side of biotech is also very interesting and well written.

bad writing
I read the first 20 pages of this book and quit.It was too painful to keep going.The author's wording in convoluted, tangential, and just plain annoying.She throws out dozens of names from the industry, so many you can't keep them straight.There is poor flow to the writing, so you cannot understand why she is telling you things from one line to the next.The topics of each paragraph jump from one subject to another with abrupt, confusing transitions.I returned the book! ... A brief overview of gene technology
First off, I would have given this book 5 stars if value was the main consideration. You can't beat the price for what you are getting with this work. It provides a very concise overview of modern gene technology, though that conciseness is the underlying drawback of this text. Another thing I didn't like about this text is that that everything is in black and white. With today's printing capabilities, B/W is sub-standard. Although, I must express that even with the limited resources put into the printing, the diagrams are well thought out and the graphical explanations are very well delivered considering there is no color to work with. As mentioned above, for a compact text that weighs next to nothing compared to a full text-book you can't argue against its value. Excellent Overview
Nicholl covers every pertinent aspect of this fascinating field of science and engineering in this book in a clear and comprehensible way.His use of concept maps to summarize the key concepts in each chapter is a tremendously effective tool. Excellent for the non-biology expert
I came across this book searching for good introductory texts to be used as companions in a bioinformatics course intended for an audience of graduate students in computer science at the University of Chicago.Thisis definitely an outstanding text for this purpose.It's geneticengineering in a nutshell.Each chapter is summarized at its end by a"concept-diagram" that connects all the essential information inthat chapter (I wish other authors could do the same with their books).The book is divided in eight chapters, spanning over 165 pagesapproximately.It covers basic molecular biology (gene organization,expression), manipulation of nucleic acids (labelling, hybridisation,electrophoresis, and sequencing), restriction, modifying, and joiningenzymes, vector techniques, cloning, recombinants, and applied issues(making proteins, transgenics, etc). ... Poor Explanations, Nothing You Can't Get Elsewhere
I bought this book in 2000 because I was going back into consulting and needed to augment my quick-reference books. Contractors are paid by the hour! This book helped me solved exactly one problem. I did not write an editorial then because I hoped I would find out that I was wrong in my initial assessment. Everything else I could solve using various chemical engineering PE preparation material. This is stuff I either collected and condensed or got from other text. If you want a better choice refer to Randall Robinson's "Chemical Engineering Reference Manual." My main complaint about this book, besides that it digs deeper ruts in a well-worn trail is that the explanations are missing steps. I would not recommend this book to anyone.

The Redlich-Kwong equation given specific for pressure given in this text is in error.It should be:

Quality and content of the book.
Generally,the book is excellent and the information is condensed in a simple language which can be understood easily. I also liked the proteins cartoons, the protein data bank number,fantastic! The other reviewer is right about the misleading title
Despite the fact that this book has very little about microarray data analysis, it is still a very good book about microarray technology. The author even introduces the reader to the basic organic chemistry and the physics necessary for fully understanding what is a microarray and how it works. The book has many interesting information which I did not see in other similar books and which can help you create the necessary microarray culture you will need. On the other hand, the book does not provide protocols or detailed methods for your experiments (if you are looking for something like this you will need the "DNA MICROARRAYS: A Molecular cloning manual" which is some kind of Maniatis of the microarrays).

Absolutely Terrific
This text is just really great. The choice of words that go into the explanations are top notch. This was the requred textbook in my recombinant DNA course. Pretty good content, although sometimes not well written
A very good book under the point of view of the content. A student facing the field for the first time will enjoy the "historical" overview given in the first half of the book, whereas those with more experience will still appreciate the description of the latest technologies. Excellent overview of a very exciting field
Certainly one of the most exciting developments in the last quarter century, genetic engineering is also one of the most controversial, and discussions of it are typically accompanied by vehemence and exaggerations. An objective study of genetic engineering is thus mandatory for everyone in the 21st century. This book is one of the best treatments of genetic engineering that I have read, and I am speaking not as a biologist but as someone actively involved in bioinformatics and computational biology. The explanations of the techniques of genetic engineering are excellent and the reader with a fairly good background in biochemistry should have no problem following the presentation. Readers without such a background will find the reading a little more demanding. One can only admire the ingenuity of the many researchers and technicians who have developed these techniques. The only thing missing in the book are exercises at the end of each chapter to test the readers understanding of the relevant concepts. Read more

First rate
This is an outstanding reference for the researcher and patent attorney alike.The book provides a solid overview of patent law in the major markets, with emphasison pharmaceutical, chemical and biotechhnology patents.What distinguishes this book from others in its class, however, is the emphasis on practical and strategic aspects of patent filing and enforcement.The author has a lifetime's worth of experience in this field, and it shows.Moreover, the book isuncommonly well-written, with clarity and occassional humor.Highly recommmended!
