This book is written at an advanced undergraduate level, assuming a basic knowledge of molecular biology and genetics but no knowledge of recombinant DNA technology or genomics. At the same time the book is organized in such amanner that a researcher already working in this general field might be able to quickly find an area where they need refreshing or up to date information.

Bio book
Easy to follow.Starts off easy and adjusts with a learning curve for all interesting in different aspects of Biomechanics.

Very in depth
Book is very in depth. Pictures in the book are pretty lame.Although, everything is explained well in the book.Not worth 65 dollars, buy the product used if you can.

This book has become a classic, and is now in its 5th edition.It reviews all that you need to know to manage patients with pacemakers, and it is clearly enough written to be a good reference for the non medical person.I have had a number of patients with pacemakers use the book.If you plan a career in electrophysiology, buy an encyclopedic text.But for the primary care physician and general cardiologist, this is your best reference for pacemakers. ... I have used two different protocols from this book, 1, RACE-PCR and 2, mutagenesis.These two methods were described verywell, both theoreticallyand practically. A new light on existing evidence
This book explores the evidence of structural and functional differences between the male and female brain. The author examines in great detail the evidence from both recent and historic research supporting these differences, and provides many case studies. It is well illustrated, and provides a comprehensive list of references, as well as suggested reading. A background in neurophysiology would be beneficial to the reader, but not required, as the second chapter provides a good introduction to many of the terms and concepts used throughout the book. (I do not have any background in biological science myself but was able to comprehend it using only the material supplied.) The author also provides recommendations for overcoming the biases of the scientific community, both in the research and treatment of many diseases and disorders. Read more

Excellent content but many proofreading errors
This introductory textbook gives a balanced (neither overly conservative nor overly liberal) introduction to all of the classical interpretive questions. Unfortunately, many proofreading errors found in the previousedition have not been corrected in this edition. Some of these errors aresubstantive, such as putting all of the prophetic books under the heading"former prophets" on p.18 and putting Jerusalem instead ofSamaria as the city conquered by the Assyrians in 722 (in the glossaryunder "transcolonization"). More than Interesting
Whether you are a technoprogressive biohacking singularity buff, or you think "H+" is just a hydrogen ion, this book will definitely interest you. Providing an incredibly optimistic view of the biotechnological advances soon to be made, Ramez Naam gives us a comprehensive overview of the potential benefits of human enhancement technologies. This book is nice in that is covers many aspects of current research in transhumanism, from mind-machine interfaces to gerontological engineering, unlike most books which are slimmer in scope. It is well written and well researched, although very obviously one-sided. If you want to get both sides of the controversy, read this, some Kurzweil, then check out Leon Kass or Francis Fukuyama. Although I don't agree with them, I suppose it's good to know your enemies =) Even if you've never heard of transhumanism, check this book out.

Explains Biological Enhancement For Everyone
Ramez Naan does a great job here detailing rapidly growing and maturing biological enhancement technologies. This is a very diverse field, ranging from life extension medications, genetic modifications, to minds hooked directly to the internet, and even mind-to-mind connections may be possible. Such mind/computer links may become natural extensions of ourselves, Naam writes. Idle speculation this is not, Naam gives many examples of present day uses, and also discusses research projects now under way, in addition giving extrapolations sometimes for up to several decades into the future. If you are interested in this sort of thing, I recommend THE SINGULARITY IS NEAR, by Ray Kurzweil, a very forward-looking book.

Non-Luddite Survey of "Brave New World" needs Companion Book
Ramez Naam does a good job previewing our future.If you want to get beyond the alarmist neo-Luddite propaganda against biotech, stem cell research, and "cloning," this is a good place to start.But the book does not address why these developments are good (as the author claims) and not bad (as Bush's "bioethics" czar claims).Only a new worldview can do that.And I strongly suggest "The ImmorTalist Manifesto" by Elixxir.(Also available on Amazon)
