Tire Traction Contents
I am an engineer qualified to carry out a technical review of the tire traction portion of this book. Mr. Haney is mostly wrong about tire traction. He has not put forward a scientifically based explanation of how it works. I have informed SAE International, in detail.

Any information about tires is a treasure!
The tire is the most important part of an automobile, and the least covered by the literature. That's why any information about tires is a treasure. Thecomplexity of the structure and behavior of the tire are such that no complete and satisfactory theory has been propounded. Books on vehicle dynamics are available but they are mostly written by academics who emphasize mathematical rather than clear explanation of how things really work. The tire might be the most useful and complicated device humans make, but the tire manufacturers provide no useful information to their customers. People are forced to buy tires mainly on the basis of price and company reputation. Even race teams get tire data only sporadically, and that data is pretty useless anyway. Tire performance is necessarily highly dynamic, but tire data comes mainly from testing under static conditions.
A technical book that you can't put down?
Beleive it or not, this technical book had me glued to its pages like a great work of fiction. Haney is an excellent writer, and the 'meat' of the text is intertwined with great real-world stories and examples from motorsport. Interviews with Mario Andretti, Dan Gurney, as well as other less famous but no less competent vehicle dynamic experts are included. Read more

Outbound auto logistics leadership will come of age!
Reading Holwegs' and Pil's book gives a good oversight and easy-to-digest intro not only on challenges but also the market opportunities with BTO (build-to-order), and the importance of being truly customer-driven. Sam Walton's saying goes a long way: "There is only one boss - the customer..."
A fascinating read about a fascinating industry
As a person who does research in the automotive industry I found the book to be an invaluable companion to "The machine that changed the world". The authors provide compelling analysis of the automotive supply chain and manufacturing process and its evolution in the recent years. The book is full of specific numbers, evidence and case studies which differentiate it from a number of other more anecdotal accounts of the automotive industry. This is a must read for researchers and anyone interested in knowing what is wrong with the current state of Big 3 US automotive companies.

A vital follow-up to the "Machine that Changed the World"!
Holweg and Pil provide a comprehensive analysis of the drivers - and inhibitors - of the performance of entire value chains. They show that in increasingly demanding and dynamic markets, the forecast-driven systems currently in place cannot cope, and the current incentive crisis in the auto sector marks just a case in point. Every VW owner should have this Book in their glovebox.
This Book is a MUST for any Air Cooled Volkswagen Owner. If your tired of wading through all of Muir's Hippie Talk?
Then this is it, kind of an in between John Muir Idiot guide and the official Bentely service manual. Great tool for anyone
This guide offers great detail of just anything you'd want to do.I own a 240sx and some things were missed in the book it is otherwise a great tool that I check before anything I do.

Very poor book.
I bought this book as a cheap alternative to the factory service manual.I tried to find a Haynes manual, but they don't seem to have one for a 240SX.This manual is pretty useless.It tries to cover too many models and too many years, and just ends up leaving out most of the information that you will need.The only wiring diagrams are for the lights and ignition system.I am trying to install a stereo and fix my power door locks, but there are no diagrams...

don't do it!
Hold out for the offical Nissan Service Manual.I bought this for my 1990 240SX, but this book is worthless.It trys to cover to many different models (Stanza, 200SX, 240SX) and years (10!) that it does not give any specific detail to any particular vehicle.It really is not worth your time. ... Sometimes you don't have much of a choice
It's a blessing and sometimes a shame that Haynes contracts with different writers/mechanics for their manuals. As a habit, I buy a Haynes manual whenever I buy a new(er) car. I am a backyard mechanic, which means I'll do anything which doesn't include rebuilding a transmission. I own 23 Haynes manuals. The best manuals are of course European as Haynes is a British publication. The ones I bought in Europe are all hardcover - an option not available to us here in the States. But the best part of Hayne's manuals is that in Europe, they actually tear down each car and rebuild it (like they claim on the cover), so you get insights, tips, and tricks from the actual mechanics wielding the wrench. Sometimes the writers have a sense of humor too, as in "...Don't say we didn't warn you not to do that" or "Don't be afraid of this next part, it's not as hard as it looks." The worst by a large margin are the American models. This is an example. The worst part of this Ford manual is that Haynes capitulated to Ford (like 'Chilton's' did in the late 1970's) by filling 90% of the book with straight out-of-the-factory-technical-sheets instructions, and drawings. If that's what I wanted, I would have bought a Chilton's. Something as simple as reaching the heater core is lost completely because you have to jump around the book to so many different sections which in the end caused you to disassemble things you didn't need to, while leaving out entirely critical things you did. I have seen the creeping replacement of the Hayne's manuals vehicle-specific detailed information, with applies-to-most-models-but probably-not-yours useless factory general guidelines. Since I'll never stop doing my own maintenance, the death of the historically useful Hayne's manual for U.S. vehicles will be an influence to me on whether I make my next purchase foreign. In the meantime, vote with your wallet; buy the Chilton's for your Ford. It won't make any difference to why you are buying a repair book, and maybe a decrease in American sales will make Haynes's notice they are doing something wrong. ... Read more

H 2 brute'?
This more like a high school paper gone wrong than a serious book for adults. Typical of the nonsense circulating around lately regarding Hydrogen as an alternate fuel.Poor science, terrible reading......Does not factually deal with the real issues such as cost of distribution, storage and gasification.An insult to any reader with a brain.

what the Hydrogen Revolution is about
This book has been in publication since 1985?That is quite impressive that he started thinking about this stuff way back then.I can't believe all the negative feedback and this book is in it's 11th edition.If there are so many errors and everyone has the time to write about it here don't you think you could send the author a little note?Like "Hey Mikey, photovoltaic cells are made of silicon and implants are made of Silicone."The book is good as a rough start, I'll admit it has been very helpful to me - a professional engineer.Yes the facts and calculations need to be checked but what facts and calculations don't need to be checked?The web sites out there dealing with this stuff are either so simple that a 5 year old could understand or so in-depth that only someone very familiar with the technology could understand the tradeoffs.This book does a great job at bridging those gaps.With that said, good Job Mikey and to everyone else - if you don't like something fix it, or shut up that's what the Hydrogen Revolution is about people fixing something they don't like.

Not the only book to have, but helpful
I agree with the last reviewer but I have to say it's most helpful to have the Chiltons manual as well as the Haynes and especially the Jeep Factory Service Manual. None of these alone has had everything I needed in it and I've found it helpful to look in each of them to see which has the best write up for whatever I was working on. Heck, it's only $16 anyway.

Save your money!
I purchased this book from an automotive store that had decided to drop the line.Now I know why!This book never seems to have any info on anything that I need, and doesn't cover anything but stock, stock, stock.To make matters worse, they seem to make up names for parts.AnyJeeper knows the term "sway bars".Not Chiltons!They decide tomake up their own terms!("Lateral Control Arm" if I remembercorrectly)I'd highly recommed a book written FOR Jeepers BY Jeepers.Ifyou want every book on Jeep, buy away.If you hope to actually use thisbook, look elsewhere. ... Airstream Land Yacht - History of the Airstream
Nice book on the history of the Land Yacht and the many global travels of airstream owners. Very few interior photos, so probably not the book for restorations but more to put in the rack once your restoration is complete. For interior photos, a more reliable source is www.vintageairstream.com Enjoy the book. We are.

Good, just not as expected
While this book offers much for those interested in the people behind Airstream, it offers little about the trailers themselves. Still, a good and interesting read.

Not What I Expected, Either!
Though never having owned an Airstream, I've always been interested in its development and history as the 'Cadillac' of travel trailers.This book was, for the most part, a disappointment.I was primarily interested in the trailers themselves.There are very few illustrations of floor plans over the years, of the development of the interiors and exteriors--after all, today's trailers are quite different from 40 years ago!A great deal of space is dedicated to a few Wally Byam caravans with some large, page-filling photos.Read more

FINE CONTENT MARRED BY FAINT, SMALL PRINT
This is a nice "coffee table" book about their recent exhibit. As a rider since '59, I couldn't wait to get into the text, which is divided by time periods. Essential reading for enthusiasts
Museums, exhibits and the books devolving from them only hint at the mysteries they purport to show but rarely reveal. This is particularly true of exhibits of things that move, whether airplanes, cars and motorcycles on one hand, or people on the other. Once mummified via restoration and encapsulated in historical review, these lively subjects lose their kinesthetic value and become dessicated. A Can't Go Wrong Gift
This book contains a good overview of motorcycling history, but its claims to fame are the wonderful photography and the high production values with which it was printed.It is a wonder to think that the photos are of bikes that actually exist today.Read more

A Good Introduction to Hot Rodding Small Blocks
This book covers all aspects of increasing the performance of your small block Mopar.Simple hop ups to full blown race ready engine modifications are covered in this book.

PERFORMANCE ORIENTED.Read this quote from introduction:

Excellent reference for building a performance Mopar
I'm not quite sure what other reviewers read, but this is not a book for standard rebuilds. This covers performance work only, and would not be a guide for the first-timer. It contains info on building up circle-track,drag, and street/strip cars, with general advice and specific part numberand machining spec's.The book is written with a heavy factory-slant, asmany of the parts and suggestions concern Mopar-sold parts. There's nothingwrong with that, as a lot of fast Chryslers run Mopar-brand equipment. Thethank-you list in the front reads like a who's- who of Chrysler racinghistory, and some of them work at Chrysler to this day, so this isn't someguy out in left field telling you to slap a 800 CFM carb on your 1978 LeanBurn 318 and go Corvette hunting- he and his advisors know small blockChryslers better than almost anybody else I can think of. I've known orworked with several of them, and they've turned out an impressive pile offast engines over the years.
