Great stuff!!!
Burger and Hendrickson have done a great job of covering the process of building a hot rod. With their years of experience, wit, and wisdom it makes for a very enjoyable read. Much of the text is obviously culled from the late, great RODDER'S DIGEST magazine, but it was good then, just as it is now. For anyone who is seriously into hot rods, this is required reading.

Hot rodders, restorers, pocket rocket folks...the works!

I'm gonna be blunt and to the point: How the **** do they expect people to figure out how to do something on a specific car model when the book covers THREE different vehicles, with an average of THREE different Generations within the 1990-2000 year range?
Not good for a mechanic.
I bought this book in order to fix my Mirage 1994. But the author of this book believes that you know how to make all the things and just tell you take appart, and installing is the reverse for the disasemble... really disapointing, not for help in any way... The common tasks that can be done by a do-it yourself ocassional mechanic never are explained well. I do not recommend this book to a serious person that want to adventure in the mechanics world...

Dam I should have bought a basic car book on how cars work or something like that, cause if you don't know a lot about cars this book is written in a different language. It's vague, confusing, and almost worthless. But if you want some kind of reference book you have no choice so buy it used. ... Read more

This book has many small editing errors throughout. Some pages are not numbered. Best automotive book I've ever read

Chilton book just O.K.
I have just started doing multiple maintainance projects on a 94 coupe.Chilton helps but since the book spans the complete C-4 generation it can be confusing depending on which engine you have.There is a critical error on spark plug gap.The books gives .035 for all years.The later models take a .050 gap.Double check your year before install.It is difficult to get the plugs in, you don,t want to do it twice.The graphics in the book are not great and the black and white pictures seem hard to see in some cases.

While this book gives overall information, it is lacking much of what is needed by the wrench that is doing the hands on repairs. If someone else is doing the work and you want to know what is being done then this book will suffice.

Great for a beginner, nearly worthless for more advanced readers
Another book that I had high hopes for, only to be let down. I was looking for some real insider secrets from a leading engine builder. I spent 10 years in the engine rebuilding business and now do it only as a hobby. I am always on the lookout for great books on the subject. This book is not one of them. Smokey Yunick's Power Secrets is a much better buy, although it doesn't talk about fuel injection. If you are a beginner in the engine building world, then by all means read this book, then read Smokey's Power Secrets.

This is the Chevy small block book I was looking for.
Finally, someone wrote a book for me. The book "John Lingenfelter on Modifying Small-Block Chevy Engines: High Performance Engine Building and Tuning for Street and Racing" is the book I have been looking for.

Wow, where do I begin? John Lingenfelter is like the god of small block Chevy's. I love his approach of bigger isn't better. It's how everything is in tune with every component of the car. In Depth
This seems to be an excellent repair manual.I have the Volvo shop manuals and still couldn't fine the intermittent wiper relay.With this book, I was able to find it within minutes.The repair sections have the appropriate torque specifications.This is a nice feature.

The next best thing to the factory manual
There are lots of really crummy aftermarket shop manuals out there, but this isn't one of them! Excellent illustations and descriptions.Fairly comprehensive.Much better than the other two well known aftermarket brand repair manual and well worth the extra bucks.

What a read!
Reads like a novel, but full of lessons for all modern-day managers and anyone who cares about how the American auto industry got where it is and where it's going.
The Right Men, The Right Place, The Right Time
In a week when the Nissan-Renault partnership has made a suggestion of parterning with or buying out or merging with General Motors, this book makes a timely read.
Horribly edited, if at all
Are the other reviewers here reading the same book I am, or are they friends of the author?The poor quality of this book is too glaring to avoid. An honest reader has to wonder if it is self-published. (OK, AMACOM appears not to be a vanity press, but a Scribners it ain't.)

A little short of expecations
I'm one chapter away from finishing the classroom manual.I expected that the author would do an excellent job on the complicated topic of diesel engines, but fell short of my expectations.In all fairness, the author did an adequate job overall.He starts out with a bang in the second chapter explaining the different horsepower ratings such as HP, BHP, FHP and IHP.After that terrific start, the succeding chapters got a little less in-depth.I do like the fact that the subject matter is divided into two topics- theory and application.The classroom manual covers the theory and the shop manual covers the practical, "hands-on", side of being a diesel technician.Delmar does this with all of their Today's Technician series of books.If you are interested in a thorough approach with much better diagrams and pictures then "Diesel Technology" by Norman, Corinchock, and Scharff is the book to get.

Lost a star for typos and noncontinuity, otherwise great.
I bought and read this book(it's actually two books, the shop manual is spiral bound, the class text is glue bound) in anticipation of buying my first truck. I'm not a tech so take my review with a grain of salt. The theory and general information seem adequate. There are a lot of detailed descriptions of repairs that are probably best left to OEM specific instructions. The end of the book was the most pertinent for me. It describes diagnostic tools and signs of trouble like smoke. I would have prefered more detail on the more/most common failures/problems encountered in used engines and how to detect them, though there was a fair amount of that.Read more

Great repair book just a little dated
I got this book in recently and was impressed with the quality of the text and illustrations to guide you through most any part of the engine you were servicing.The book is orgnaized into sections covering each of the area of the engine such as carburetor or electrical.One trick to using the book effectively is finding the sections that are relavent to your engine; some features simply were not on the engine I was servicing.
A Lawnmower Saver
This book is well organized. I found the cause of my lawnmower problem, then followed the instructions to fix it. It runs like a new machine now. I saved a lot of money and had the satisfaction doing it myself.
