Adequate for simple repairs and a general understanding of the cars covered, Chilton manuals are a cheap alternative to buying the "real" shop manual. Unfortunately, for whatever the reason, they are fraught with errors and omissions. Wiring diagrams may not be correct, and often simple step by step instructions are unclear. We haven't completely dived into any major repairs, but have referenced this book for information about fixing the horn, fixing electrical wiring that's been noodled around with and tune-up specs, etc...So far it has provided enough detail, that is easily understood.It does seem to assume some prior vehicle mechanical knowledge or experience.My only complaint has been the lack of an index....sometimes it's difficult to locate your topic.The book is divided into 8-9 sections, each section has a table of contents....but when you're looking for something small, you have to guess which category it might fall into -- then read the table of contents to see which subheading it might be under...and if you don't see it in the tables of contents, you have to scan the sections.

This book has errors of omission and commission.It will contradict itself from one section to the next, and doesn't portray information in a coherent format.I have learned to regard the guidance given in the book with a certain amount of skepticism.Only recommend this book if you absolutely cannot find anything else.

This manual is garbage.I've tried to use it for three separate jobs onmy 96 Legacy and every time it has proven worthless.The latest exampleconcerns the camshaft position sensor.The manual lists trouble codes thatwould confirm the diagnosis, but lacks sufficient info to get the car todisplay the codes. The book gives only a vague arrow in the generaldirection of the sensor location.It details the steps to remove thetiming belt in order to change the sensor on the Legacy.As I look at it,and as my mechanic assures me, the sensor can be removed and replaced on a96 Legacy without disassembling anything else.Worse than worthless, thisbook would have me spending hours on a 2 minute job!Read more

This book is useless for anything other than info about setting up solid rear axle systems. everything else in this book is either incomplete or filled with editing errors. A whole book about chassis engineering etc that at no point whatsoever mentions Ackerman angle is unbelievable. Mr. Adams says that to find the C of G position is difficult so he doesnt tell us how he tells us to assume where it is based on other cars hhhmmm Then how come in race and rally car source book mr staniforth explains how in less than a page. Save your money or buy staniforths book and see how its really done

Although it doesn't have the technical details of Frere's "911 Story", I think for most of us this is a better overall book. I also recommend Leffingwell's "Porsche Legends". If you are a Porsche 911 fan, this is well worth having.

Bought book to help plan an RV electrical system upgrade and it more than met my expectations. Found the book fairly easy to understand with a wealth of specific information about the "whys" and "wherefores" of wire, fuses, circuits, batteries, battery charging, electrical loads, etc. Author also includes a wealth of technical info for tech types who want greater detail.

While not the best (compared to the Factory Manual, aka "BGB" (Big Green Book)), it is better than the Haynes manual for the ST16x and ST18x celica models because it covers all the models, including the rare AllTrac (AWD Turbo) models, the ST165 and ST185.The Haynes covers the FWD Celicas only.This is an important point to make, as I have an AllTrac and the Haynes does not help me at all.Also, this book has a lot more information than the Haynes-- even the thickness (page numbers) comparison should tell you that.For a maintenance/DIY manual, this is something you want to have, especially considering that the next best manual is the official factory manual (BGB) which will cost you about $100 and possible waiting for special order from the dealer.

Has all the info I need, haven't found any inaccuracies yet. Some information is not TOO easy to find but it's hard to think of things that are NOT covered. Especially has a complete set of wiring diagrams, although an index for those 220 pages of wiring diagrams would have been nice! I made my own, after getting tired of browsing every time.

I've owned a '98' V70 for over six years now and I do all the work myself. I bought this book recently to see if it was any good. I was hoping it would fill in a few gaps that the other books left. After using it for several months now I can say that this is THE book to have for your early 98-99 V70. No other DIY book that I have compares. It's layed out really well. The pictures are excellent. The text is superb. Get it!

This hardback is not as described in the other review.It includes the usual information of Haynes manuals which means that it covers almost everything the home mechanic will perform including engine teardown photos and details.Haynes leaves out repairs that are expert level and the determined mechanic can find information on these repairs if desired.

The NG900 Haynes manual was a constant companion when I had my car.It is full of information and pictures (though some of poor black and white quality).It provides good step by step detail for doing just about anything you would routinely need to do.Does it cover everything?Nope.The car used was a naturally aspirated 2.3l and not a 2.0 turbo, which is the more popular model.Therefore, a few things are just slightly different and a few things aren't covered in as great a depth as you may want.However, over all, this manual is priceless.It is a UK version, but everything is pretty much applicable for left-hand-drive cars.Now I need Haynes to come out w/ a 9-5 manual! ... Two negative points I should tell you about there is no answers to the review questions in this book and no NATF Outline for areas you need to know per (ASE) areas of knollege, (A1-A8). For a Basic to Mid Level education in Auto Mechanics this book covered what was needed. In this Day of buying alot of books to get an education. Buying one well rounded book Helped keep the money in my pocket.
