5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome book, very easy to follow
This book is very easy to use.all the chapters are well written and very easy to follow. If you want a book that covers heat transfer that is great for a class or great for reference then this is it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Libro muy útil
5-0 out of 5 stars The book is so good you can teach yourself
This textbook is one of the best I've ever used.Incropera and DeWitt do a great job of explaining convection, conduction, and radiation.I have heard that the mass transfer portion of the book is lacking however, I am an ME major so its not an issue. The covering of conduction is especially good, it goes into great detail math wise although its well presented so you don't have to be a mathematical wizard to follow along. The book goes into a little bit of heat exchanger design, not very much but its a good introduction. If your instructor requires this book for your heat transfer class consider yourself very fortunate. ... 3-0 out of 5 stars Where's the useful stuff?
You could spend the rest of your life reading this book! It would be useful for any professor or A student or other intellectual studying the material in depth. But for a practicing engineer who has little available time to ponder the specifics, it would take a "lot" of effort to find material that could be put to work in this text. If you are interested in deriving the equations you need yourself, or if you're analysing a unique design, then this is the book for you. But if you are busy with standardized systems and technology, find another reference.

3-0 out of 5 stars A Misleading Description
I was expecting more tables and equations especially for natural convection external flow. There is also very little useful information about forced convection external flow.I also would have liked to see some sample calculations to demonstrate how to use this book better.
5-0 out of 5 stars Reference book for engineers
This is not an introductory book on heat transfer! Instead it is a thorough treatment on heat transfer in a stringent an extensive manner. This book places greater emphasis on correctness than "easy-to-understand-ness". However, if you do read it, you gain a lot compared to most introductory heat transfer books. If you are interested in forced convection heat transfer, this book gives well documented equations and charts for a great number of shapes, though mostly internal flow. This is a very serious book for serious engineers! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars CFD Bible
I refer to this book as my CFD bible.I first used this book approximately 19 years ago as part of a two semester course in CFD.Since that time, I have refered to this book often.
5-0 out of 5 stars A very good book
The book is one of best books in Computational Fluid Mechanics And Heat Transfer area I have read. It not only covers basic knowledge but also talk a lot about advanced technique about CFD. It is very helpful for students just like me. After I bought this book by using a discount from coupons-center.com, I have used the book for one year. I also found CFD code is very helpful. If you are beginner to CFD coding or want to some free code as reference, this book has many good code examples. you can learn from the code examples and then can easily make your CFD code.

5-0 out of 5 stars Must have
I learnt CFD on this book. Definitively I give it 5 star, unfortunately I can't give it 6. It covers all the CFD from the beginning to the advance level. You will use it as an undergraduate, graduate, PhD, post doctorate researcher. No kidding. There are some codes, the book contains all the information you need, it is easy to read, never criptic like many others. I suggest you to buy this book without any esitation if you are really wanting to learn and do CFD. There are more specific books on some arguments, say, turbulence, but none is more comprehensive and well written like this one. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The science of mundane
This is a very good book to have for an engineer who deal with two-phaseflows and heat transfer, for those who design and operate nuclear reactors, thermal power plants and other thermal management systems. It provides afoundation, with an extensive collection of empirical formulae which couldbe useful if properly applied. What feels missing in this book, - and isgeneral feature of BOOKS on two-phase flows and boiling - is the heavyempiricism, the lack of a scientific concept, the absence of robusttheoretical treatment that one should possess after reading such acomprehensive compilation. That is to say, it is good for some one whoknows the subject/field, not for teaching someone about boiling heattransfer and two-phase flows.

4-0 out of 5 stars Flashing Phenomena
I think for better understanding to learn about Nuclear Power Plant System (NPPS), we must learn first about Boiling and Two-phase flow as an important part of thermohydraulicssystem in NPPS

5-0 out of 5 stars Great text and reference
Clearly written more for chemical engineers, as a physicist I have still found myself going back many times over to the 1st. ed., and now to the improved 2nd. ed..The book contains an ample collection of tables of thermal properties for many materials. The theoretical coverage of conduction, convection and radiation is excellent, and the example problems have a practical nature to them.

3-0 out of 5 stars The Good and the Bad
The Good:
5-0 out of 5 stars Why only five stars?
This book is a winner . Forget about any other substitute . In this detailed text you will find all you want about every ine of the multiple equations about the heat transfer , clearly and powerful illustrated . The level of the problems are gradually increased so when you decide to solve them you will become in a real gladiator in this topic .
5-0 out of 5 stars A League of Its Own
In Holman's (the author) spirit I'll keep this simple. This text (along with Moran/Shapiro's introductory text in thermodynamics) is among the best textbooks met during the course of a civil, aerospace or mechanical enginnering study. The language used constitutes what should be an "industrial standard" for engineering textbooks. It keeps the level of attention peaking by avoiding loose talk and wordy explanations where this is not required. This is (academic) litterature in its truest sense. I own about 50 science/engineering texts within fluid mechanics, solid mechanics/dynamics, mathematics, physics and more. Among these, this book is top three - no small feat. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent undergraduate mass transfer book
This book is amazing! The way the author presents the theory, formulas and applications followed by an example is an effective way to understand the material. Another good thing about the book is that at the start of every section there are objectives which gives you a scope of what are the themes that you must learn. This book is very practical, specially in chapters of absorption, desorption (packed, sieve tray) and distillation columns. What makes this book an amazing one is the integration of the mass transfer phenomena with the mathetical computer program, MathCAD to solve tedious problems. The author presents MathCAD routines in the chapters and also in some of the appendixes. All you have to do is copy those routines and you are instantly solving problems. This is very useful in the design of separation columns (chapters 4 - 6) and when calculating diffusion coefficients (chapter 1). This book is as great as its author, believe me I took some courses with him, unfortunetly I couldn't take mass transfer with him. =(

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent mass transfer book
If your program splits transport phenomena into separate fluid dynamics, heat transfer, and mass transfer classes, this would be an excellent text for the mass transfer class. The author does an excellent job of explaning the diference between mass transfer coefficients and diffusion coefficients compared to the generic tranport phenomena texts. He also integrates some of the recent developments in the literature into his treatise on mass transfer. Finally and the most interesting aspect of the book is the integration of a computer algebra system, specifically Mathcad into the problem solving process. Overall an excellent text.

5-0 out of 5 stars A very didactic approach to mass-transfer operations.
The author of this book takes a very effective approach to introduce the reader to the complexities of mass-transfer operations design. From the very beginning of the book, the author guides the reader into a hands-on approach to calculations using MathCad programs to simplify tedious calculations that are usually a roadblock to the learning process. To make it even more convenient, an ftp site is available (see the Wiley.com page for the book) from which you can download the MathCad example programs and the Solutions Manual. I think that this book will soon become the standard textbook for mass-transfer operations. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars DON'T BOTHER WITH THIS BOOK~
I'm a Ph.D. student in Chemical Engineering. I needed a study guide for my qual. and thought 'how bad could this book be?'... Well... It's BAD~!... Just get yourself a BSL (Bird, Stewart, and Lightfoot) and solve their examples. After all, REA just copied all the examples right out of the BSL.

1-0 out of 5 stars This book is worthless
This book has zero usability. It is not an adequate source of reference for any course pertaining to transport phenomena. You would have better luck using the internet to help you get past advanced problems with which you struggle, as this book is poorlyorganized and has little to offer to the student of any course beyond the introductory level.

2-0 out of 5 stars Ok for Profs', "not so hot" for students
As an adjunct professor who teaches Transport Phenomena I purchased this book in the hope that it filled a void that has long existed in the area of solution books on transport phenomena; a good treatment of heat and masstransfer. The Schaum's outlines "Fluid Mechanics and Hydraulics"and "Fluid Dynamics" are good treatments of momentum transport. To its credit the book does include a significant number of problems inheat and mass transport as well as in the area of momentum transport. However the book does not live up to some of its claims:Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Great Text - "Cheap" Physical Quality
One would think for $150, this book could have been printed on heavier weight and better quality paper. Either Wiley went overboard in trying to lighten physical weight for the student to carry, or they're trying to sqeeze even more money from already ultra-high book price mark-ups.
5-0 out of 5 stars heat exchangers
heat transfer, exchange of energy in the form of heat between bodies or parts of the same body at different temperature. heat is transferred by convection, radiation, or conduction. although these three processes can occur simultaneously, it is not unusual for one mechanism to overshadow the other two. for example, heat is transferred predominantly by conduction through the brick wall of a house, a pan of water on a stove is largely heated by convection and eart receives heat from the sun almost wholly by radiation.5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book
I don't usually write reviews of books that I have purchased but I felt that I had to for this one. Does a great job in explaining the concepts and doesn't leave you lost as it moves through the chapters. It is written clearly and very easy to follow.
